And Emersonn’s injury keeps him out. What do you think we do? Persevere with Akpom or give Egeli/Enciso a go up top.

Lots of pace, but zero aerial presence. Worrying in a league that's increasingly dominated by set plays.

Convert Kipre into a striker as a reverse Richard Naylor.

Seriously, I agree to an extent, but I think playing on the break, as we're likely to this season, means we can make the most of the pace available.

Hmm. I don't like your suggested XI one bit.

In fact, you could argue there's LESS height and physicality in that XI than what we lined up with 2 years ago.

Sure, we've probably got more dynamic players this time around, but if we line up like that most weeks we'll be kept at arm's length.

It is a "break glass in case of emergency" solution but the OP asked what we'd do if we don't get Flemming or another striker in, and Emmerson's missing. I think that might be it.

Get relegated is the correct answer. Akpom is not good enough and never will be, whether he bothers putting in effort or not.

Emersonn looks to have a lot of potential but will need to share the load with somebody more experienced

It's vital Flemming comes in today, if not we are staring at the drop, despite all the other good additions elsewhere in the squad.

Would that actually be possible in terms of agreement/contract at this point?

Ffs this whole “if we don’t sign Flemming today then we’re relegated this week” balderdash is taking negativity to a whole new kindergarten level.

I don't think he's actually put pen to paper, but then we knew about Emerson's injury before we made the agreement in principle. Not a serious possibility.

I get that we should be supportive and back our current players so I applaud you for that and at the ground I will support whoever plays.

But there's also an element of realism required Emersonn is young, a player bought on potential, and Akpom was 3rd choice behind 2 flawed strikers in the league below.

You'd have to say that's the worse strike force in the league by a distance of we dont get Flemming over the line

It’s the instant “relegation this week” that’s infuriating me. No fight, no resilience, just cave in now. Yet some of those so called ‘supporters’ were berating the players for lacking those very qualities on Sunday

And as I pointed out earlier, we do have goals in us from all over the pitch, plus GON’s flexibility.

Adapt and survive!

There's a very fine line between delusion and realism

For the umpteenth window the club has failed to sign a proper striker that is fit for purpose in the division we are playing in. Last year we had the misfiring Hirst and the headless chicken Azon, a "striker" that has only scored 25 goals in 144 apps in the Segunda División, a division even poorer than the Championship.

This year, same story, Emersonn looks fine, but like Egeli he is still wet behind the ears and far from being the finished product, hence it is not possible to expect him to "plug and play" 9 in the PL. Akpom was third choice behind Hirst and Azon in the Championship so it beggars belief that he starts in the PL, it would be a repeat of AAH 2 seasons ago.

Clarke and Philogene, and needless to say McAteer will not score as many this season as they did in the Championship for the simple reason they are not physical enough for the PL and they will get closed down much faster by other PL defenders before they can even shoot.

So many quality strikers were available - including Jiménez who dropped down one division, Callum Wilson who was a free agent, and Ueda, whom I feel we never seriously made an approach for. Even Cyle Larin at Saints would have been a good back-up. And don't tell me they were unattainable - if we can woo Palacios and target Gabriel Jesus - I don't see why we couldn't get any of them instead of making life difficult for ourselves in the last few hours of the transfer window being subject to the mercy of Burnley and being squeezed for more £££

Why would we put either of them in as a striker when we have Maeda?

He's too small mate, like 5 foot 8. The defenders are like all 6 2 or more. Diop is about 6 foot 5.

Nailed it.

It's been an immense blind spot of our current ownership/recruitment team.

Even discounting my general view that Egeli shouldn't be in the squad, the idea of him being played up front is laughable. Never understood why people keep pedalling this idea he's being groomed for that role later in his career.

Enciso could probably do it, but it still wouldn't be ideal.

Correct. Good post

That said we have done a good job of sorting out Centre mid which was another extremely weak area and probably even more vital than a striker. If we're not cut adrift at December and no reason we should be Id expect us to go in for another striker and offload Chuba

Egeli, someone who did well in preseason and doesn't take a squad place shouldn't be in the squad?

Strange take.

And he is playing in league one and was swiftly exported once we got to the top division.

Size is not everything, as we get told from time to time.

Best you apply for a scout position at ITFC.

Wilson we tried for, opted for Brentford - can't argue with that.

Jimenez is 35, I can just imagine the meltdown on here if we were signing him on deadline day. I'm pretty sure he'd have been considered at some point though.

Larin hasn't had a sniff from anyone, he's 31 and never played at the top and no mentions. He's decent enough, but not PL.

Ueda has had one stellar season at a good level, much like Akpom.

I'd have preferred Abraham over all of those, but he's backed himself at Villa, again...fair play..

We still sit in a certain pot of clubs that are going to struggle to do a number of big transfers.

Enciso will go for £60m in the summer btw.

I mean he can be in the squad of 25, course. I just don't think he's good enough yet to be in the match day squad regularly. That was the point.
