The relentless negativity towards him is unnecessary but... he didn't.

Agreed, thought he was far better than e.g. O’Shea today

O'Shea is not a right back. Poor old Fatawu had so much to do tonight...up and down up and down...

O'Shea was at sea when he had no cover.

The Greaves/Akpom stuff really needs to stop. Greaves has probably started the season better than Diop. It's a brand new partnership. It's a team effort to defend better.

Well at least two of us think so at least! First goal was partly down to him ( and partly the other defender ) giving Isak an unbelievable amount of space between them for the first goal ( brilliant pass by Gakpo ). Other than that I though he did ok. I've got a feeling I'm going to be spending a fair bit of this season defending the oncoming tide of criticism against one or two players like I did Kasey McAteer last season. There always has to be at least one.
| Anybody genuinely defending Greaves needs to view the highlights on 23:08 - Sep 4 with 1322 views | Bellevue_Blue | The first is a goalkeeping mistake ... if he widens out the ball goes through the middle of them. Realistically that's a save Scherpen should make. The second is partly a keeping mistake and partly a Greaves but at the end of the day he's playing against one of the best CF's in the world who showed very quick feet. I'm not sure I'm that concerned about Greaves. Let's see how he looks against Palace and Everton. After all he looked great against Sunderland. | | | |
| Anybody genuinely defending Greaves needs to view the highlights on 23:13 - Sep 4 with 1299 views | armchaircritic59 | Well, obviously got an issue, as he wants him out of the club according to another post he's made. " My Club " as he puts it. So I'm therefore assuming he's one of the Gamechanger guys! Considering the other defenders aren't better, we'd be a tad short of defenders, if it applied to them too. | | | |

Yep. Half the boo boys don't watch the game properly. They see Greaves as the last defender and think 'he's at fault'. He played well.
| Anybody genuinely defending Greaves needs to view the highlights on 23:39 - Sep 4 with 1134 views | Swansea_Blue | He’s our quickest CB. He was targeted all night by Isak though. It’s fairly obvious he’s a weak defensive link, even if he does some impressive recovery work at times. It’s not his fault; he seems to give his all. And he’s all we’ve got so he needs our support. I think Diop is our best defender, can’t help but thinking we could have done with Mendy or similar singing next to him. Let’s see how it shakes out. [Post edited 4 Sep 23:50]

Isaak will have plenty of top defenders on skates this season. It's all relative.

It’s always the way with him. He’s not a bad player but has his limits, same as anyone else. I feel a bit sorry for him too as anyone can look shaky when the defence as a whole isn’t right, and our’s certainly isn’t. He’s the one with the pace to try and get a recovery tackle in, so often ends up the last man and getting the blame. Meanwhile Diop is still trying to turn 25 yards out lol

I don’t think that’s the partnership for success to be honest. Diop clearly needs a strong LCB with pace next to him.

Greaves does a lot of nice things but ultimately at this level he just isn’t brave enough or strong enough. He gets caught on the turn or underneath the ball too often and doesn’t deal with anything with conviction. He’s nearly a good player but unfortunately like a lot of his first contacts, O don’t think he’ll quite get there.

Both me and the chap I sat next to thought he had a good game. Well, at least a good second half … when we were sat with a better view of him.

We’d very obviously get relegated if he played 30+ games. He won’t.

| Anybody genuinely defending Greaves needs to view the highlights on 08:11 - Sep 5 with 586 views | GlasgowBlue | Greaves is being left isolated by a slow and ponderous Out of position Diop. He’s also the only one of himself, Diop and O’Shea who can carry the ball upfield and link up with our attackers. How many times did we see Diop link up with Fatawu in the way Greaves did with Davis? | |
