Will be interesting to see how they're compared to environmental groups who did the same and who mainly showed their faces. Were anti terror laws used against them in the end? Weren't there calls by certain sections on the right to run them over?

Let's wait and see.

So GB has come into this thread two footed and called a poster a sad bastard. And then Bloots has come in and reinforced that view. And that’s all okay? That’s how we want threads to be going?
[Post edited 5 Sep 22:31]

Minor point of order.

I think it was Bloots who introduced the ‘sad bastards’ narrative on tambourine and occasional harmonies.

It’s confusing though, they’re a bit like the Sugababes…you never quite know who’s been binned and who’s now on lead vocals….

Sometimes I giggle about the frothing lunatic who’s put me on ignore and now has to constantly log out to see what I’ve said. Beneath that counterfeit persona lurks the same pitifully desperate egomaniac.

I have read and caught up.

This thing about where are the 'right wing people' coming on here to condemn is an absolute nonsense. As if all people to the right of Barbara Castle need to condemn racists. Racism, violence, authoritarianism and populism, are not exclusive to the right. I don't need to state my objection against any such thing.

I feel a bit uneasy about masked men dressed in black protesting. I also get quite hacked off about the idea of causing mass disruption to others through your protest. I also don't really think what they are protesting against is necessarily coherent.

But, I don't think this particular action is problematic in isolation. There were no arrests, no attacks on police, no criminal damage. This has not been the case with loads of prior protests. I don't agree with their motives or message, but it's hardly anarchy is it?

My wife is three years into a politics degree at the age of 58 and has discovered Marx. She believes Das Kapital is as relevant today as it was when written. I have to remind her she is a small business owner.

Probably because the police were taken by surprise and did not initially have the resources in place, especially for a group far more likely to be aggressive if challenged.

Ta, I haven’t been following but having now seen some of the pictures from today that makes sense. It’s certainly easier arresting older people who aren’t going to turn violent.

I certainly wouldn’t like it, I appreciate it’s threatening.

But it’s not illegal to protest peacefully and on balance as a one off i think it’s ok. I don’t agree with them, but not worthy of banning.

There have been violent protests in recent years, this is nothing like that scale.

why do you go for blm, when we have far more recent and far more violent protests such as the ones in southport and rotherham?

if it was a peaceful protest, then the police would have been informed in advance and the provocateurs wouldn't have all gone in black shirted uniforms and balaclavas. it was designed to send a threatening message

I recall posting about a pro Palestine convoy driving through a Jewish area of north London chanting “Fcuk the Jews, rape their daughters” a few years back. Didn’t get any condemnation from “a certain element” on here. Did get some “but Israel” Whatabouttery. Which neatly brings us back to the point Dubtractor was making last night.

Anyway, can I please give my apologies for being absent for the rest of the day. At a Northern Soul alldayer. Don’t want my silence to be interpreted as complicity if anything kicks off in the news today.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

I logged in at 4.45 ish to comment on the Coventry game, having been at my son's new flat painting. At 5.03 I condemned the knuckle draggers at Dover. Sorry I wasn't quicker. Before that I posted at breakfast to defend Jacob Greaves.

Other than the period we were playing Liverpool last night I am barely posting on here.

3 pots on Thursday, 2 on Wednesday, 5 on transfer deadline day, and a scattering of posts about the Man U game which I was at hence the reason very little from me on Sunday. So a handful of posts in a week.

Somebody messaged me last week to ask if I was ok because I was hardly posting. My reason, crap like this about posting on demand. Particularly from one sad bastard who for the sake of peace and harmony, shall remain nameless.

But as you raise this point "but the silence from the usually very vocal right wingers after these recent events is quite telling". Something I used to say similar about left leaning posters during the spate of Jew hate and holocaust denial during the Corbyn years. People who were quick to condemn racism from the right but absolutely silent when it came from the left.

Not a pop at you btw.

Do you feel that BLM protesters, environmental groups, Palestine action, etc, and all the 'left' groups are inherently different to those protesters in Southport, Southampton, Dover, those up and down the country at hotels etc etc on the 'right'?

Do you feel the coverage and punishment of those involved in both has been proportional?

I suppose the point being made is why you, quite naturally, went for BLM, at its peak 6 years ago, over much more recent incidents on the right, even extinction rebellion is at least 3 years past it's big stuff. And yet in the public eye those are the big problematic horrible disorganised disruptive events.

I genuinely don't know to what extent this is justified. Maybe they did do that much more damage and impact, but it feels a little more than that. More done to associate the left with this disorder and the right with Pat on the head scallywags don't do it again.

Not all aimed at you by the way, just splurted out my thoughts!

No that's all fair enough comment.

Maybe it is very sinister, but maybe it's a one off. We often talk of evidence on here so maybe we will see.

I mentioned BLM as it just happened to be in my thoughts due to the attacks on police officers at the time. The other protests are perfectly valid examples too.

Southport got lots of coverage and condemnation from all parties and quite rightly. Perpetrators of violence and criminal damage were swiftly charged. I didn't think Lucy Connolly was treated appropriately but that's for another thread.

I can't profess to know much about Palestine Action. I have read a couple of high profile situations such as attacking a police officer with a sledgehammer and damaging military assets. If you support the Palestinian cause, I am not sure why anyone would want to follow this group. The actions of their core members are unlawful.

Just a final thought, being on the right gives me no political alignment to the people who do these awful things like set fire to hotels with asylum seekers in them. I therefore don't feel the need to continually condemn them, I think that the point Glasgow was making yesterday. I don't expect fellow posters on the left to do the same as pogroms like the 7th October are nothing objectively awful, not about your political alignment.

Why?

People can downvote posts all the time and they do. Mine are frequently downvoted without explanation. Will you also be asking others to explain their future downvotes to you or you just trying to distract from Benters utterly outrageous post?

Clearly this has the beginnings of a pile-on, especially with Bloots upvoting your post, someone who has downvoted the majority of my posts without explanation for over a year now.

The targeting of certain posters on this forum by a certain element is getting out of hand.

I didn't think it was a very nice thing to do, given I was merely explaining where I had been for the day.

If I right an opinion, such as Income tax should be dropped to 1%, I would expect down votes.

I had to go back 3 pages to even find what you are referencing. I felt it was a transparent attempt to keep the argument going about not posting immediately. I'm sure dolly felt the same.

What is interesting is that you didn't care about it for 3 pages until you saw the opportunity to get an argument going......
