I was not rude to another poster on here and that’s the difference, but of course you know that. If I went into detail regarding what these people have done you’d find that my comment was actually benign and relatively complimentary towards them. Oh well.

| Ed Sheeran on 09:33 - Sep 17 by grow_our_own | "You don't need a two-state solution to achieve that." - I'm all for multi-culturalism, but due to history, understandably, the Jewish people will always want their own state. Pretty exceptional case but this is a natural consequence of unfathomable, industrial-scale murder inflicted upon them within living memory. The only solution is two states. Anyone who opposes this is part of the problem. |
The Jewish wish for a homeland/nation goes back a lot further than the holocaust. For centuries, while part of the Ottoman Empire; and it only found structure to work towards it with the creation of the Zionist Organization formed in the late 19th century. When Palestine fell into our hands post ww1, we supported a greater Palestine model rather than an independent Israel one (it being the days of the British Empire, encouraging lands to gain independence was not always on the menu). Ironically if we had supported Jewish rights more then, it could have provided a haven for Germany to deport Jews to, but that is another historical maybe.

Over-population is another factor in how mankind is trying to debilitate itself ; how long the growth patterns will remain sustainable with our climate issues sure too affect crops and animal feed, time will tell. |
It's depopulation not overpopulation that will be the problem. Will start to shrink within most of our lifetimes according to most projections (2050s/60s). Most countries are flat or already shrinking outside Africa. Even India's birth rate is below replacement level now. Either need to nail robotics, or de-toxify migration, otherwise there'll be a tiny working population.

It was purely an observation that neither of you like to drop an argument! Chill.

To make it simple for you: I said that the speech he made was full of love not hate. You replied, specifically to that point, and said (effectively) "here's a different story, what about that?" (I've said elsewhere that I agree with you that the story you referenced was a bad act by Macklemore) but it was not the thing I was talking about to which you specifically responded with a "whatabout". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Hope that helps.

both will be a problem. As the likes of the west, Japan, Russia, China with low birth rates for an aging population, many other countries are increasing population in an unsustainable way re their ability to feed their population. And if food shortages ever become a thing, the ability to feed your population becomes ever more important. World population has increased by a billion in 12 years, that is a lot of mouths. Expected to top out at over 10 billion by 2080 (if mankind survives that long !).India are shielded from this for a while as their average age is 35 but it will happen in time.

"10 billion by 2080 (if mankind survives that long !). " - that 2080 UN prediction is outdated. It's been superseded by studies that factor IndiaIndonesia's recent development and lower birth rates. Agree with you there's growth-risk until then, but it'll not be as severe as we once thought.

| Ed Sheeran on 10:45 - Sep 17 by Whos_blue | This thread has been a bit like the wild west in places and I haven't found the right time or place to jump in with my own tuppence. To begin with, "Free Palestine" is not the hate speech it was been described as by the promoter and others. It's a cause (not a pet cause) I support. However, I have struggled a bit with Sheeran's part in this and how it is playing out. I don't know Ed and I'm not a massive fan of his music, but he has always struck me as a decent person and I've been impressed with his genuine support of our club that goes much further back than our recent success. Although I don't know for sure, I suspect Ed himself would support the Free Palestine movement. He has dropped a bit of a clanger in how it has been dealt with and I suspect this is the first time in his career he has experienced a backlash like this. It's hard to say how history will remember him on this issue, but it was probably better to back his friend, suffer whatever consequences came his way and be remembered for doing the right thing. I do get he has to consider his whole entourage though. It seems he has tried to make some amends via a very sizable donation to causes in the area and has encouraged others to do so. For me, Ed has a lot of credit in the bank and he deserves better than the patronage of that class A C-unit SYL. I think this association will hurt him the most personally as I feel he is simply not that person. I big misstep for sure, but I'm not sure how helpful it is to the cause of Free Palestine to describe Ed as the charlatan he is being described as. I guess I could be being naive and his philanthropy could all be a show and part of his brand. I hope I'm wrong and in time this is suitably addressed. Free Palestine. |
It's very nice of his "friend" to do this in the first place and land him in a whole load of trouble when he's just trying to sing. I wonder if he even bothered to tell Ed he was going to do it before opening Pandora's box?

Well, obviously this wouldn't have caught Ed off-guard. Macklemore released a pro-Palestinian song and is always vocal.

There's a difference doing it off his own back and doing it as part of someone else's tour, though.

He also has me on ignore. So he won't be able to answer whether one of the companies he's turned down work from whose views on Palestine don't align with his is Disney, who are on the BDS priority list due to its "financial and cultural ties to Israel and complicity in the ongoing genocide"? Never mind. Edit. The funny part of this is that the mouth frothers who are down arrowing my post have absolutely no idea why they are doing so other that it’s a post from me. Rent free. The first two for me would be great I’m not fussed with the second two.😍👍 But then Nigel often parks on my driveway,I haven’t met the dreamboat Ashton yet.

I was encouraged that young people were being engaged in politics for a change, but I really do not like the tendency on the left to get caught up in a cult of personality, not least with somebody as unspectacular as Jeremy Corbyn.
