Removed the thread because it became nothing more than very personal attacks. It's really going to be a very long three-week break if that's the way things are going to be.

I like the idea of a padlock myself from other sites I frequent with MODs and time to delete certain details , but sometimes some threads go so far beyond that and so quickly they just need destroying no matter how frustrating or how many wonderful posts are lost.
Unless we had a group of full time MODs on here there’s no way Phil,Gav etc can cope with the traffic…and with MODs that itself can open a whole new row of cans of worms.
So yep… Phil in this case has no option or certainly the lesser of evils… poor sod can’t win. |

Not sure on the functionality of the backend restricting this, but I would much prefer this as a solution.
In general, deleting the thread means threads like this one become both "sides" blaming the other and nothing actually changes. Regarding that thread, there were some worthwhile contributions which I would have liked to have caught up on. |
The simple solution is for posters not to get personal or abusive.
In the past, I think that Phil has filleted threads so that threads are still up but with certain posts taken out but this is probably a real inconvenience.
The trouble with padlocking threads is that some posts could simply be up for people to see and then reply to them by starting a new thread, which in turn fuels more threads etc etc. |  | | |
