Pasta is great but potatoes are possibly the world's greatest food.
Versatile and healthy* whole food you can literally live on for an extended period if needed.
I reckon I could easily do a month on potatoes if I had some decent olive oil, rosemary, spices and condiments.

Depends what is meant by versatile. Potatoes can obviously be cooked in more ways to pasta which can only really be boiled then fried or baked.
Potatoes actually have around 60 different cooking techniques globally, although pasta has around 400 recognised shapes.
These are all then compounded by recipes and serving suggestions.
I’m going with potatoes as if cooking styles is inferred as the aspect of versatility. |  | | |

Bit of a cheaty comparison really.
Nearly all pasta we get is made from durum wheat. Whereas we have access to dozens of varieties of potatoes (jersey royal - salad, king Edward - all rounder, Desiree - all rounder, Cara - boil/mash, Maris Piper - all rounder, Charlotte - new/salad etc….).
Having said that, given the choice, I would still vote for an all rounder potato. |  | | |
