There is a big problem with TWTD at the moment. I’m on the opposite side of the argument with sitters when it comes to the death penalty or immigration, but he’s entitled to his view and should be allowed to express it. But every time he starts a thread posing a question, he is jumped on by a certain element who complain he is trolling or trying to start an argument.

I don’t see any difference between sitters thread and the one on Hampshire. Both discussing topical issues reported by the media.

A certain element trying to not only police what is posted, but what side of the argument each poster should be on.

Oh for pity's sake! Why is it such a secret who 'they' are on either side? It's like the Illuminati vs Fight Club or something. It's very annoying for 'under rock dwellers' like me and Clive Baker, to name another.

If those of you who feel it necessary to 'call out' the 'usual suspects' must go on and on about it, why don't you actually name names like big brave girls and boys so that those of us who haven't the faintest idea who you are talking about can actually keep up, grab some popcorn and enjoy watching you all snipe each other all the way to the banhammer? 🙄

I think you’re falling for exactly the type of thing Phil has been calling out. The “usual suspects” is simply a way to tar anyone they don’t agree with and cause more division.

Calling people out isn’t the type of thing they do unless they feel safe enough with others to join in. These threads always end up in a sort of doom loop.

Well, then. Proof that irony doesn't come across in the written word on a forum. Which was the point I was trying to make in that post, in my own weird little way.

To one person, I could come across as irate, to another as just being sarcastic and making a joke, to another like, frankly, a bit of a weirdo.

There's the difficulty of social media I think name calling is an obvious way to tell the tone of a post, but some people use insults as a term of endearment.

We could all do better in clarity of posting, and maybe if we feel we get a harsh response back, take a deep breath, be calm, kind, and big enough to apologise for the misunderstanding.
