No, not the band, actual street preachers.
I often pop into town at lunch, and it feels like there are an increasing number of animated street preachers around. All Christian rather than any of those controversial religions.... couldn't tell you what denomination of Christianity they were from though.
Any ideas as to why this might be? Is the rapture coming and they've all had a heads up?

I think it's partly a result of society being divided, people having smaller and fewer social groups, maybe even a bit of the male loneliness epidemic (they're usually men). All the above leads to people seeking belonging somewhere - sometimes they end up in fringe groups and become radicalised.
Before anyone jumps on me, I'm not saying Christianity is a radical fringe group, just these cult-like groups.
As an aside I do wonder what the world would be like now if people had just treated online lunatics like they do these preachers, and just ignored them instead of giving them the attention they crave. |  | | |

In a similar vein there seems to have been a sudden influx of relatively young, seemingly trendy people approaching in town to ask if I fancy going to church this weekend. Approach is quite weird, sort of just thrown in passing as they walk by the other way rather than actively stopping me anything
Can’t quite work out whether I’ve just started to look like someone that needs to find god or whether we’ve got the starting of a cult in good old Ippyswitch but it’s all a bit weird
Failing that ‘want to go to church this weekend’ is code for something else I’m not aware of! 🤣
EDIT : should have read the whole thread, guessing it’s the same Mormons mentioned. Probably also a variation of option a, I’m now at the stage where I look like I might easily lap up the attention of someone young and attractive 🤣 [Post edited 24 Sep 17:02]

He was equipped with a microphone, speaker, bible, leaflets and had an excessively large crucifix around his neck.
Nothing too weird there.
Except he was only "preaching" in between singing over the top of the BritPop classics from the mid 90's that were blasting out of his speaker.
I thought it was quite a decent way to get attention, singing along to Hey Now by Oasis, telling everyone that Jesus died for their sins and then bursting into Flowers in the Window by Travis.
