| Expulsion from the PL 18:58 - Oct 1 with 1861 views | ringwoodblue | I see that if Citeh’s punishment is to be expelled from the PL, at least 15 of the other 19 clubs have to vote in favour of the motion. Can you honestly see any club apart from Citeh themselves voting against and if so, who? | |

The more you read about the details of what City have done the more your mind boggles. It beggars belief. Paying the manager £1.75m for FOUR DAYS WORK and then still paying that money through City is unbelievable. Almost literally. [Post edited 1 Oct 19:04]

| Expulsion from the PL on 19:24 - Oct 1 with 1682 views | J2BLUE | Depends how it works. If they were immediately expelled I could see many clubs voting against it and instead wanting a big points deduction to effectively relegate them but keep them in the league for the season. If they were allowed to stay in, it would open up the potential nightmare scenario where they would have won the league without the deduction making the entire season a washout. Would we still see three go down in addition to City with four coming up? If so, I could see us, Coventry, Hull and a few more opposing that. | | | |

If ManC were expelled, it would almost certainly be two other teams relegated with three being promoted from the Champ. The only recent precedent is Bury FC being expelled from L1 in 2019-20. Three went down from L1 to L2, with 4 coming up (as usual), then only one going down from L2 to the National League and the normal 2 coming up, with that then cascading down the lower tiers. Likewise in 1991-92 when Aldershot folded. One team came up from the Conference, but nobody was relegated. Tho the following year, when Maidstone were liquidated, one other team was still relegated and only one came up, thus reducing the Third Division from 23 to 22 clubs the following year, a situation which persisted until 1995-96, when it went up to 24.

They said the amount of money they would lose would be huge and it would cutting their noses off to spite their face. Should it really surprise us that those who run Premier League clubs might think more about money than rules, fairness, the right thing, etc?

I don’t get that argument at all about losing money. If City are replaced in the prem by West Ham or Wolves or Boro, life will go on just fine. The idea that City are some crucial historic club that the PL needs is absolutely fking insane. They were mostly a punchline before they started cheating and that’s what they’ll be for the rest of time.

They have built themselves into a big international draw.

Just have to be replaced by Gary O'Neil's flying Ipswich Town. On a more serious note, I doubt those international fans would stay away for long. They'll attach themselves to another successful team instead.

I’ve mentioned somewhere so excuse me repeating myself … i do think that if they do have the whole library thrown at them and not just the book .. I could see them entertaining the super league issue… now all the fans of City would dispute that vigorously but I believe only the Maine road cohort which is much smaller and dwindling by the year … 2008 plus fans are a different beast generally as we all know…. Internationally and “plastic” who would be lot less bothered about tradition….. if they did entertain it … it really could open a whole can of worms again.

However, now, would anyone go into a Super League with ManC? And if the rules of this new SL were "spend what you like", that would risk bankrupting quite a lot of the big clubs who might think about joining. After all, where's the fun for a ManU or a Barcelona in being part of some confection where City win every season because they have the deepest pockets?

That’s true .. but this is where the Saudi , Turks , MLS … Russian whoever with big pockets willing to sport wash or buy glory spend and buy the best with bottomless pockets….. LIV football. A whole can of worms like I say … no matter how short term it ends up being the mess would be messy or Messi

| Expulsion from the PL on 08:10 - Oct 2 with 411 views | Bellevue_Blue | I do not understand why all 19 clubs would not vote for this. If we illegally added £2BN to our accounts over the course of the next 10 years (whatever the £900M adjusted for inflation) which allowed us to knock Man City of their perch, they would be the first to vote for our expulsion. Or a more real example, what if Newcastle did that .. the whole league would be up in arms. They are the team they are today because they cheated their way to a £1BN advantage over most of the league. The only way to remove that £1BN advantage is to expel them and have the come back in at L2 level IMO. A one year relegation will allow them to retain the advantage. Sponsors will stay, some great players will stay. Not in L2 they wont. | | | |

I think it is less about City as a club and more about the PL brand. For example, I imagine it benefits the league financially having Haaland here - if City get relegated, he will be in La Liga the next season.

If they're expelled they wouldn't receive any parachute payments, that could be spread between the other clubs, so even more money for those clubs - easy - all clubs vote for City to be expelled.

Yeah there are probably a few clubs owed money, aren’t the fees quite often in instalments. Not to mention the add-ons. Maybe we should ask for a refund on Delap!

Newcastles's owners may also have been distracted by events closer to home since they bought the club. Indeed that goes for all of the sportswashing petrostates in the Middle East to some extent but the the Saudi PIF has been cutting back on spending a lot in the last year.

Financial cheating is the logical endpoint of the Premier League brand though, a league created solely for the biggest clubs to make ever more money at the expense of the rest of the game.

City will challenge the verdict and bring in lawyers and it could run for years which truthfully is a mockery of the system. But as with everything money talks. The more you have the more you can get away with.

A Super League sponsored by any of that lot would be too obviously a sham. Does anybody much watch the overinflated Saudi league (obviously, Far Eastern gambling syndicates will bet on anything)? It would lack credibility, with just money going for it. Players would only want to go there if at the end of their careers or not quite good enough. Anyone genuinely competitive will sign for teams in a proper league, chasing the traditional trophies.

That's a good point on a distinction between expulsion and relegation-by-points-deduction. Not that the money would make much difference to ManC, but the distribution of it might to others.
