Philogene must be incredible in training 10:26 - Oct 24 with 2041 viewsBelsteadCav

because I’m not sure how he starts ahead of Clarke and Maeda.
1. I don’t think he wants to be here
2. He’s clearly a very good championship player, but looks like a little boy in the Prem

I’m happy with last nights point. Forest are a good side and I think they’ll finish above us. They could have easily won 4 or 5-1.

Watching back the MotD highlights, I’d give Philogene a bit of a pass on some of the decision making from last night. We never seemed to have enough men in the box for him to try and get crosses into when we were attacking. He didn’t have a great game though, and it’ll be interesting to see if he keeps his place for the Hull game.

He has a lot of technical ability but he does lack that speed to really scare PL defenders

He isn't suited to the system we play, certainly in the PL where we need a lot of fast breaks and hard running

I can see why somewhere like Turkey might appeal because he can go to a dominant side, get a lot of the ball and probably get more time and space to be more dangerous

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Needs either speed, or aggression, or power, or really exceptional ball skills. Doesn’t quite have them. If we have a lot of the ball, he will get and take chances. Most games, I think he will struggle as he is just too lightweight.

I should add that there is literally no basis to claim he doesn't want to be here and that it is really tiresome seeing town fans constantly looking for and perpetuating that sort of undermining stuff which can effect the whole club.

Exactly he’s a one goal wonder, lacks pace and looks a championship all day.
Surely JC must start as does Maeda as they both looking Prem players and can score.

Im sure he is. He's clearly got bags and bags of ability but his physical attributes at this level are lacking. He slows the game down too much when he should be looking to run at the isolated fullback and the defenders at this level aren't going to be beaten by being stood up like they are in the championship.

At the minute he doesn't look as though he's up to this level but he also seems like the type of player who learns and adapts as he gets more minutes. I'm not sure he should be in the team from the start at the minute but I'm not writing him off completely. He's got to be given time to adapt and do what he does in the championship at a higher pace and intensity that the Premier League demands.

All the rumours coming from having a new agent, not helped by him clarifying he was staying either

It gave the impression he wanted to be off

I suspect if you put him Celtic or Rangers sides, he'd look different gravy in the SPL

He started the second half much more positively which shows he can mix it at this level... probably needs a few more steak and chips meals though!!

I don't agree.

It wasn't even a new agent, just his original one joining an agency which you don't move to unless you are angling for a transfer.

Then did his business on social media via his agent / fabrizio. This is not 'nothing'

I'm a big Jaden fan, think he's still a little off match sharpness given the injury pre-season and think he has a lot to offer. However, it is clear the agent shenanigans rubbed people up the wrong way and he was clearly angling for a move.

Is maeda now the swap for the right side rather than the left? I think the bigger contrast in performances from the wide forwards was when he came on for Fatawu, and that Fatawu may make way before Jaden does…

But worth noting that while neither Fatawu or Philogene made much headway against Forest, they were up against a very strong 3 CB structure with excellent Prem hardened wing backs in Williams and Munoz - they will have easier games.

A very good Championship player, but for me, I don't think he will cut it in the Prem. Yes, he has got a worldie in him, but he doesn't create enough for others. 2 assists in 52 games for us, is a very poor return, for what is supposedly a creative player

I was surprised last night fatawu didn't go on the outside at all what's that about,

Yes, that was very odd. If nothing else, he had the opportunity on occasions to just hit the ball forward and chase after it but never chose to do that.

Now the dust has settled it was a bit of a strange game last night.

I would be open to a transfer of Jaden in January, you can see him going to a European side potentially. Not sure what offers he could command 20 - 25 m?

He MIGHT be a premier league player but not right now and we need him to be one right now to stay up.

Pretty much my thoughts, and don't think Jaden was particularly better or worse than the rest of the front players last night; can only remember Emersonn touching the ball a couple of times (but despite that, Forest controlled the game better after he was replaced by Flemming), and the 3 behind spent most of the game running into traffic - Enciso the pick of the bunch for at least getting past a few players before doing so (or winning fouls in the process), and can't remember Jaden doing anything as bad as the 2 occasions when Fatawu passed the ball back to the opposition under no pressure.

Think GON summed it up well - as a team we weren't really on it yesterday in terms of executing a game plan (Forest mixed up their tactics well, and that combined with the conditions made it difficult), but fell back on hard work and determination to grind out the point.

I wonder whether he felt / or was told that his job was to keep Williams in defensive positions and not to take risks. Maeda may have had different instructions when he came on because my sense was that he was more progressive. But I do agree, he was remarkably reluctant to go outside, especially as he has been pretty good at that in previous games

A couple of things from last night.
Loads of times he received the ball he had 2 Forest players around. Without Davis bombing up field that meant Forest could leave both players on him, whereas a bombing forward Davis forces one Forest player to go with him.

This was the same with Fatawu last night, too many balls to him were coming at him rather than ahead of him which meant he invariably was facing towards our goal. Fatawu was also frustrated last night, he was looking for the ball ahead of him, when too often he had to receive the ball basically in a standing position, that gives the defender the chance to position himself in a containing situation. Put the ball ahead and that gives the defender a much more difficult choice.

Ignoring the one goal wonder jibe, whilst Philogene is not ready to start neither is Clarke. He makes a real impact from the bench and gives us real fire from there. When he begins a game, defenders seem to have his measure as they're tiring at the same rate.

I think I'd have Fatawu on the right and Maeda on the left at Hull. Though I do prefer Maeda on the right, we just have no starting option on the left, other than him, at the moment.

I think Maeda was just being rotated, I saw GON spoke about Lukic missing out to definitely be ready for next weekend, so I got the feeling last nights team was as much about getting a result against Forest as it was looking forward to next week.

When Davis came forward they put two men on him as well. That must have left gaps elsewhere but we couldn't exploit them.

Tricky to tell on TV but was it on the far side? Almost impossible to play a bit crossfield ball given the conditions

What I noticed with both Philogene and Fatawu is the moment they got the ball, there were two or three Forest players pinning them to the touchline. No room for movement or outlet.

Fairly evident it was a deliberate tactic to negate our wide play.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Yes, the right side definitely had more room to manoeuvre, especially at the end of the first half. We ended up trapped on the left, more often than not - even if we wanted to try the cross field ball we didn't have the room to.

Munoz and Williams are a real handful, that system is designed to overload on the breaks and Forest do that a lot better than many PL sides

I thought they looked more like a top 10 side with the way they dominated us, I guess that's the benefit of 4 years now of expensive recruitments?

Thankfully, they were incredibly wasteful and still waiting to fully click
