Christmas Tree and Decs 09:15 - Dec 1 with 4741 viewsm14_blue

When is acceptable to put these up?

I'm planning on doing mine tonight and over the weekend which I thought was fairly standard. However, people in the office are outraged that I'm doing it so early and are banging on about the 12th? Hardly seems worth the effort doing it that late.

Over to you TWTD....

Why do you care what your office thinks? If you want to do it this weekend, do it this weekend!

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

We put the outside lights up first weekend in December, so I'll do that tomorrow.

Probably won't do the tree until next weekend.

Anytime in advent (ie; after 1st December) is acceptable..... those who were doing it last weekend were jumping the gun.

I would argue Xmas eve and then back down Boxing Day, but apparently the answer is the 17th:

Any time after the first of December is fine, but my missus normally does ours a few days before depending on her schedule as likes to have it up by 1st December at the latest - she'll probably do it tonight

As for those advocating the 12th, they probably misunderstand the 12 days of Xmas thing.

Oh I absolutely am, couldn't give a monkeys what they think, it's their loss I reckon.

Just interested if I'm in the minority.

If you have children; whenever you think it OK
If you don't have children - don't bother

Got 3 kids, so tomorrow or sunday we're making a big deal of putting the tree up, decorating the **** out of it, covering the house in tat, and letting the kids get excited.
If the neighbours sniff at us, stuff 'em.

The kids are excited, that makes me happy, so on with the fun!

MrsNewcy put ours up last Wednesday. She wanted it done before she took the bairn to “Elf School”.

She really digs Christmas....

How long do you expect it to last?!

Ours would have been up on Tues, but the stand was a bit unsteady as broke last year and would have lasted 5 minutes with T about! Secured it now so may last an hour

When I was a kid- after the war, we had no money for decorations so had to make our own e.g paper chains with coloured paper = four & water for sticking paste then painting old electric bulbs for baubles.
That was, for us what christmas was all bout + getting ready for the various school events.

Normally the first weekend in December but we did all ours last week as I haven't got a free weekend until Christmas. So everything is up but not being turned on until tonight.

"painting old electric bulbs for baubles"

What a good idea! Think we'll have a crack at that.

I haven't had a tree or decorations for 4 years. I think you should put yours up whenever you want though. Tomorrow is perfectly 'acceptable', not that you need the acceptance of others. I think it's more odd that some people want to put theirs up but don't because they're worried what everyone else will think. I'm sure we'll see loads go up over this weekend.

Truly impaired.

I have just done some googling(apparently you still can)-I did not know that it was not a Monty Python original.

Thank you Factual, that is a very interesting piece of information.

We're going to get A a small tree for her to play with I think. To be honest the cat is the main issue with Christmas trees in our house!

Haven't got one up at home yet, but we put one up in a Christmas Tree Festival on Tuesday, which I was quite pleased with... an 8ft tall one made of balloons... (it's on until 6th December, free entry with 111 trees in total - Yasmin loved looking at them all)
