First Trip to Portman Road 11:23 - May 13 with 7997 viewsIan38018

Hi Folks

I do hope no-one considers this to be spam.

I am one of those sad groundhopper chaps, attempting to do the 92.

I visited Portman Road last sunday, and a few pix 'n' scribbles may be found below, should anyone find this of interest.

Having taken the time to read it, you've made a very mature and conscientious post, and quite fascinating to see how someone without bias sees us. I liked how you made mention of Waghorn being a different player here, as one of the things many of us have struggled with is just how negative Rangers fans were on the forum about him when he left.

I am also sorry if the 12th Man chap who does the tickets gave you any guff about being a day tripper, he takes his job as ticket manager quite seriously- though glad you caught him on a good day.

A good read. Interesting point on the Sir Bobby Robson stand being the best place in the country to start safe-standing.

Very interesting snapshot of a match during the time we had no manager and there was a collectively sigh of relief (whatever your opinion) that things had been resolved plus renewed positivity for the future. Good time to visit as a couple of months previously would have given a very different impression.

Quite, I would have hated to have seen the OP's interpretation if he came to the Hull game.

I did have a quick look at your review of Carrow Road and was unsurprised at the fact you didn't seem to like their fans all that much, I'm not sure anyone particularly likes them.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

"I ventured that was OK, and attempted to make light of the issue by making a remark about his Lucky Seat or some such, to which I received a grunt in return. Charming. He then pretty much sat with his back to me throughout the whole match, the rear of his bald head and thick neck looking remarkably like a large penis, I noted."

Fantastic read, appreciate you posting it.

Tractor Boys is a Sky induced nickname and most sane fans hate it.

Edit. The down arrow contributers confirm this.

I'm in my 30s and I really dislike the Tractor Boys nickname. It's incredibly cringey.

Cheers for that, interesting to see what a neutral makes of the place. It's a bit tired these days but still a proper ground in a proper location for which we are grateful.

Couldn't help but read the Norwich write up haha

Sounds like you encountered some typical Norwich supporters they really are an odd bunch

To be fair he probably doesn't understand that everyone is supposed to be related to everyone else in the family enclosure. No doubt the dick head he described complained to the ticket office after the match for a non family member being let in.

I dislike the Tractor Boys label, but it originated with chants by Birmingham City and Everton fans early in games, but when we then beat them we turned the chant on them.

Yeah but only after "No noise from the Tractor Boys" was sang and Ipswich sang back "Two one to The Tractor Boys"

Sky then picked up on it.
