At this moment in time Lambert is below Jewell for me.

At least under Jewell we at times played some great football (doubling West Ham etc) before it went wrong. I also think he deserves half a point for admitting when the game was up and walked away.

Poor old Bobby Ferguson doesn't even make a list containing the three Pauls....

Apologies to the late Bobby Ferguson, he's on there now above Johnny Duncan.

He did alright in the circumstances Ferguson, two great escapes and we should have got to at least one Cup Final under him in 1985. Injuries cost him promotion in 1987.

Good point and you've swayed me. Jewell has been promoted, you could out Lambert, Jewell and McGivern in any order depending on your mood. But true, there was a spell when it looked like Jewell was getting it right and we were playing very well.

Keane is higher than many would expect as at least we had fight under him and we were never hammered. We also had a good spell under him for a few months before things went downhill around Oct 2010.

Jonh Lyall may be even above SBR for me, certainly latter SBR when we definitely should have won more than we did. What he did was truly amazing.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Mick McGiven was never actually our manager as in club manager but other than that the list in the OP is just about right for me except I would have Keane below Jewell and at the moment Lambert above both of them.

Mick should be above BFJ

Bottom 4 is

Jewell
Hurst
keane
Lambert

Although MM is streets ahead of anyone we have had since BFJ there is a case for having BFJ marginally ahead of him based on two playoff appearances against MM's one.

Lambert has the potential to get to the bottom of the list but for me Hurst is comfortably still in that place with Keane above him.

he's done a cracking little job at Col U, developed some fantastic talents and continues to do so - Smzomdics/Kent/Vincent-Young/Dickenson/Pell/Senior/Poku are all or have been really impressive talents for Col U.

Very shrewd on a budget in the market : Gerken, Callum Harriott.

Most importantly for me he has an identity at Col U, his 4-2-3-1 and ensures that the front 3 are fluid and dynamic, as well as really attacking full-backs. Really good fun to watch

Lost out of play-offs on the last day last year and currently has them 6th, doing a great job.

Genuinely cannot believe what i am reading in this thread. We may not be going well at the minute but Lambert is not worse than Keane or Jewell or Hurst. I think some people are forgetting quite how bad we were under those three.

The Big Joe era was far better than Mick's, exciting games, attacking football and a better side. He even got us to around 15th in his last season when he lost all his best players and had a very patchy squad to get a tune out of.

I would probably put Royle above Lyall. We played some lovely football under Joe.

He inherited a PL squad and got lucky with some good youngsters but managed to fail miserably and then destroy it all with some truly horrendous signings. We were in freefall when he left.

No, but they would've done, all three left with us in absolutely horrible positions and had to be recovered by someone else and even then we somehow didn't go down. I don't think it's even a comparison.

While McGiven never had the title of manager as such, he was in charge of the first team for the grim 1993-94 season. Little did we know that the next season would be worse.

Yes when John Lyall moved (himself?) upstairs McGiven became first team manager but I believe John Lyall was still club manager in title and in fact.
