Time to bring back Burley? on 09:57 - Aug 30 with 3325 views | skankerman | What's to lose , personally I would like this to happen, if there was a succession plan in mind with a young coach Paying up existing contracts could be a problem, so I guess the current management team will be given more time, which I hope they can be successful

Time to bring back Burley? on 10:07 - Aug 30 with 3287 views | pointofblue | Would much prefer to bring someone in who has managerial experience of this time, such as Cook or even the Cowley’s. If it wasn’t for his time here would we want Burley, after reports of falling out with the board at Derby, Hearts and in Cyprus plus his poor records at Palace and with Scotland plus the relative struggles during his second season with Southampton before getting the national job?

I love Burley as much as the next man but he's not been involved in football for so long and sentimental appointments normally only work to appease an emotional fan base. We need a plan to succeed.

Time to bring back Burley? on 10:43 - Aug 30 with 3154 views | Westcountryblue | Not too sure Burley is the right man to take us forward, but someone like Karl Robinson ticks a lot of those boxes. Unfortunately, it looks like Lambert has learnt very little from the mistakes of last season in the way we are setting up this season.

I don't think we are at rock bottom. I think sacking and paying out a massive contract of Lambert's when we are 13th in November is rock bottom. He ticks all of the boxes apart from having been involved in football for ten years? Surely that's a required box? I loved Dyer as a player but again we can't just make him heir apparent on the basis that he played for us 15 years ago. I think you touch on one of the main points at ITFC. We need a proper 21st Century structure. We are set up to fail. A proper CEO and a DoF are essential. [Post edited 30 Aug 2020 10:55]

Time to bring back Burley? on 10:49 - Aug 30 with 3131 views | RegencyBlue | I like the sentiment but he’s been out of the game way to long for it to make sense. In addition he, like any other manager, would be doomed to fail under Evans and I’d rather remember the good times!

No, rock bottom implies we can't go any lower. We certainly can and probably will in the ME banter era.

Time to bring back Burley? on 10:58 - Aug 30 with 3075 views | 26_Paz | When will this stop. When George Burley is 85 people will still be bleating out the old line ‘bring back Burley’. The guy hasn’t managed a football team for god knows how long. He is the past, not the future. The club needs to start looking forward and stop harping on about former glories

Apparently that’s what we’ve been doing for the last 18 years or so. Worked out well so far. Burley had a connection with the Robson era and an understanding of the clubs identity. He’s not 85 either. He knows the club, he knows the town, he’ll have seen more Ipswich matches recently than any other potential manager you could mention. Burley gets this club.

Mick would never come back and l dont blame him, the fans were awful towards him. Then sulked like big babies when he swore back at them. Numbskulls all of them. He would be ideal though. Warnock would have been too,but we missed the boat there as usual.Pulis is the guy l would like to see. No fancy football, but would have a plan, and the players would know and understand it. Also he would command a bit of respect, either that or certain players would be shipped out pretty quickly.

I'm not convinced having been involved in football within the last 10 years is a required box. How much of the basics, and man management, have changed in that time? And what's to stop him getting a modern coach in to help with any modern techniques?

Plus I’ve not seen advances in the football played by Ipswich since he left. He was streets ahead of his time when he was here. We were doing the Sheffield U thing 20 years ago. [Post edited 30 Aug 2020 11:50]

I think you're missing a crucial "not" in that first sentence, in which case I fully agree!

Time to bring back Burley? on 11:46 - Aug 30 with 2956 views | Wickets | I think George is as fit and well now as he has been for a few years or should i say that was the impression i got about 10 months or so ago . George would often walk to the ground on match days along the Norwich rd and was often very chatty to fellow fans ,he is a lovely man and enjoys a bit of bantor . I impression i got was that he does not hold out any real hope of returning to football management .
