That's not the way to flounce off. The board demands a 200 word rant of bitterness and finger-pointing.

Not flouncing mate just got better things to do the board isn’t what it was, to be fair it’s a good comparison with society at the moment, anyway Up the town let’s hope we get up this season 👠| | | | Login to get fewer ads

Good to hear - especially if you have been a true blue since 1970. I echo your sentiment that society is as fractured as TWTD but also hope, like you, that we get promoted this season.

Why oh why do we continue with a pre-match minutes' silence for 11 November? on 12:17 - Sep 14 with 1789 views | hampstead_blue | Factual. It's because it's still incredibly important today. One thing which happens over that weekend is a tremendous amount of fundraising to support those in need of our help. There is huge amount of support required to those who have recently served alongside the diminishing numbers who served in WW2. It's also a chance for the nation to say 'Thank-you' for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice but also those who came home as well.
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

In principle keeping sport to sport is a good idea but that attitude neglects the positive difference sport can play in society. Keeping sport as sport would have allowed South Africa a platform for their policy of apartheid - in a sense giving that particular regime a sense of acceptability. You can argue that the above is an extreme example and that other vile regimes have been allowed to participate in international football/sport but that is possible another thread. Taking a knee or even showing support to eradicate racism, homophobia, sexism etc isn’t everybody’s cup of tea but I don’t see why we should be considerate to them. In my opinion I think we, as a country have our priorities wrong. A large chunk of the population seem content to make a huge gestures to show support for army veterans, the NHS and even BLM without realising that more can be achieved by demanding better mental health provisions for ex servicemen who may need them etc. But it looks good to cover yourself in poppies once a year instead.

So if, say in a couple of years time, once the pandemic has passed - would you be for or against a day of remembrance for the people who passed away directly as a result of Covid-19 and for those who perished as a result of domestic abuse and mental breakdown as a result of social isolation? It is interesting that Remembrance Day was an understandable response to the loss of many of the best of a generation in the First World War (and a death of suitable husbands for a generation of women) but that the Spanish Influenza death toll was actually the higher one from that era.
