With Lambert not going.. thoughts for Feb 13:07 - Feb 1 with 2833 viewsunstableblue

So looks very much like Paul is staying. Marcus jaded from pressing the button on managers, still convinced that Lamberts improved passing across the back line is green shoots. And attacking player injury (Norwood, Edwards) is a mitigation.

We've got the below fixtures in February, a capitulation/horror show loss could still see Marcus flip and get rid, perhaps being driven by who is available and keen to join a club in freefall. Dyer/Butcher clearly not seen as an option. Pearson sociopath types a scary prospect - someone personable has to be a criteria, surely.

There was some good to be seen in the Sunderland loss and Crewe draw, and much to be concerned about. Defence still looks porous, especially against decent physical strikers. We are simply not flooding the box and the service is limited. We are not breaking the lines enough and being dynamic to free space for the lone striker. The form of I think the hugely talented Wolfenden is a major concern.

And we go into a brutal February with these key issues still in play. Blackpool, Shrews and Northampton have to be MUST WINS.. but jeeze just how many of those have we had. When is enough enough. Oxford, Hull and Donny (4 points and I'd bite your hand off). Those three teams, especially Oxford, challenge the notion of a sh!t league.

What has been good of late? what glimmer of play-off hope have we seen.

Well the full backs against Crewe made a HUGE difference, Chambo was back in the groove and Kenlock showed the art of the possible. He was instructed to run and look forward, he broke the lines, if you want to see the Town problem graphically illustrated (and the reason we miss KVY so much) was when Kenlock drove through the middle of the park and pulled Crewe out of position. Terrific. But it was a passage of play later when Kenlock broke again on the left; the Crewe defenders saw him as a threat now, and he pulled THREE players onto him, freeing up Edwards to cross. WE HAVE LACKED THIS FOR AGES.

Edwards was better, but still not there. Downes is getting fit, but wasn't dominant. Dozzell is almost clicking. Bishop and Judge were unable to provide that link, Bishop looks out of form. Drinan was isolated. But when Norwood came on, their defence looked stretched. Norwood is a good player, we need him fit.

Perhaps full backs delivering, Downes, Dozzell and Edwards firing, and then the addition of Harrop and Parrot and we can become a different propsect. I do sense that McGuiness and Wolfenden are instructed to break forward.

I think my point is that we're stuck with Lambert, the team could perhaps click.... OH I GIVE UP WE'RE FRICKING DOOMED

You're all missing the point here.

These signings are to get us to the summer. Lambert will be sacked just as ST renewals come out.

We will get the "team gelling" comments for 4-6 weeks, then the "we still believe" comments, then finally the "disappointing but we go again" comments from the likes of Downes who has no intention of being here next season.

Truly impaired.

He won't be sacked. He will get to start next season. Evans isn't listening or caring. He is making a point to all the supporters that he is in charge and doesn't give a stuff about what we think or want. Get used to it.

Kenlock going on a driving 60 yard run through the centre of the pitch was one of the highlights of the season fo me.

Watch Ward come straight back into the team...

I said a few days ago all the loans were backing Lambert but was told it wasn't that relevant and it didn't mean anything.

Yet a few days later we are still getting more players in. Does it still mean nothing?

All I wanted this week was to see him gone, I'd be fine with no loans if that was the case. Perhaps it's still all irrelevant and he will still go but that's really what ITFC need right now, not more loans.

I am sorting of hoping that ME really understands the difference between this season and next.

It isn’t a case of, well okay we failed, let’s go again with some player/manager changes, and give it another go. It will be fundamentally different.

I am hoping he gets the fundamental difference, so at the point he realises that to get promotion, the whole team needs to hit a win percentage over a time frame that never has been accomplished by PL, he pulls the plug on PL and makes the change.

To me that feels like the rational strategy.

Agree

Lambert WILL get sacked when play-offs become an impossibility.

So its a new project with a new manager, with all the restrictions of the wage cap. AND an exodus of bad and GOOD players

I suspect he will be given the rest of the month which is shameful, we are gaining nothing by keeping him on. Just wasting time to get someone in and try and make a stab at the play offs.

I really despair with the club atm, it's just garbage, what else can we all say anymore, there's nothing left to say. It really is embarrassing no way does he turn this around, 2 years of failure, rubbish attacking football, he hasn't got any idea how to turn this around.

I’m sure we’ll continue our poor form and beat the shït in this division (Shrewsbury and Northampton) probably scrape a result against Blackpool and lose to Peterborough. Imagine this will keep Lambert here as the green shoots will keep shooting.

.... indicate Marcus is sticking with his man

I reckon a bad loss to Blackpool (the team just haven't been 'that' bad in the last few games), then pressure will be serious

I can;t see that happening, we'll be too good for Blackpool and seem to be getting some attacking options.

No real surprise. I was always in the camp he will be here until ST renewals.

3 more loans, a big squad, doesn't know his best XI, can't implement an effective philosophy.

It's a grim time, but just about ticking over until the summer, when I suspect there will be to some degree a good clear out.

We aren't going up, we aren't going down. Nothing to play for, so it doesn't really matter.

I disagree. He will be a couple more years. There is no way Dementor Evans will pay a penny more than he has to and if by then we are in the bottom division or heading toward it, from his perspective who cares so why change anything?

Either that or he'll go when the play-offs become a mathematical impossibility meaning some clause in Lambert's contract kicks in allowing Evans to sack him for next to nothing.

ST renewals will be 'hyped' with the arrival of a new manager, plus plenty of focus on the academy and how it'll be ''vital'' with the salary cap kicking in. They'll also probably play the sympathy card by saying ''the pandemic has really hurt us'' and ''we need you now more than ever'' etc. The prospect of actually watching some live football will help entice wavering fans to renew as well.

If the break clause is correct, he will get until next year, and which point Evans will relive of duties at minimal expense and believe all in well again in the fan to club relationship.

He was never going to get sacked this early in the season, in fact I think he will be here until the end of the season

Only then will he get the chop if the season is unsuccessful. The changes today show he still have ME support
