A couple of theories as to why Lambert's still here 10:05 - Feb 21 with 2767 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

1. A new manager is lined up... but he has a 'watching brief' for a couple of games. This has happened before (Lambert did it himself) and would be easy to do secretly with iFollow.

2. The takeover rumours are true. I'm sure ME can afford to sack PL if he wants... but if a takeover is imminent, why would he waste his own money doing it? Let the new owners decide what they want to do with Lambert. It's not ME's problem anymore if he's selling.

I agree, as others have posted, that it's baffling as to why this is still going on, and these are the two best scenarios I can come up with. I don't subscribe to the 'he just doesn't care' theory. His kids being supporters will prevent that - and from his appearances at games and the messages he's put out, I believe he does (he's just been crap at running it).

There also could be some merit in that he's just too busy with his other businesses right now... although it only takes a short chat with Lee O'Neill on the phone about what's been going on to come to a conclusion that this isn't working. And even if he is busy, I'm sure he'd watch the games Saturdays for a couple of hours.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

If I was a prospective new owner I’d have Lambert’s severance pay coming from Evans’ pocket. It’s not their fault that he lost control of his senses and gave him a five year contract.

the season is dead...Evans knows it. He'll hang on to Lambert until the summer while thrashing out a mutual consent deal that is of benefit to both in terms of the finances. I expect this is what the current face-2face talks will be and hence Lamberts slightly more positive demeanour.

He is not going to pay up Lambert now and pay for a new manager for 4 months of a dead season.

There is no take over.

People are thinking this through too much.

I don’t know there is BUT how do you know there isn’t a takeover out of curiosity ?

The season shouldn’t be dead though, even now a competent manager should be able to haul us into the play off fight. Leave it much longer, though, and it will be.

Yeah maybe. Depends how much the investor knows about the manager. If it's someone overseas looking to buy a football club, and is looking at the whole package, they might not have got down to the nitty gritty of Lambert staying or going. But generally I'd agree that Evans should foot that bill.

How are you so confident there's no takeover? Unless you're ME, or very close to him, you have no idea either way.

Also, the season's not dead. It's got a bad cough, perhaps, but it's not dead to a new, competent manager.

New owners invariably bring their own ideas in terms of manager (see Evans/Keane). They would view replacing the current manager as being one of their expenses, surely.

It's a nice simple line for people to uparrow, but let's be honest; he's a self-made multi-millionaire businessman. He's clearly not an idiot. He's made bad decisions with regard to his football club (many of which were only bad in hindsight), but he doesn't have NO idea what he's doing.

Which makes a time wasting watching brief even more unlikely. The new manager would have access to every game we’ve played. A watching brief would make no sense at all.

That's a good point. ME can just say he has no plans to sack the manager, so if the new owners want a change that expense is on them.

A watching brief, for a couple of games, wouldn't be time-wasting. It would be gathering information about the team as it is now, without interference, to get an overview of what's going wrong and what's needed. And has happened before.

It hasn’t happened before. Lambert sat in the stands for one game when he had only joined just before the game and there was a caretaker manager in charge. No new manager is going to say let me skip a few games and keep this clown so I can watch on ifollow when there is already loads of games they can be watching. They could literally watch 10 games over 2-3 days if they wanted. Why wait for them to play out in real time? Honestly it makes no sense at all.

Yeah you’re right.

A decade and a half of a few errors, only visible in hindsight.

Definitely not wilful neglect of the football club on every level that’s resulted in our decline to our lowest ebb in six decades. Definitely not that.

Evans has reportedly already sounded out several managers. If I were them I'd be watching our games in case I got the call. Maybe ME just hasn't made that call yet.

But I agree, if there is a new manager it wouldn't make much sense for Lambert to still be here. I'd forgotten we had a caretaker when Lambert watched us, so it seems likely ME would have a caretaker now. However, most of ME's new managers have already been lined up, so I'd expect them to be watching at least one game before it's officially announced.

Maybe, though, I'm just desperately clutching at straws.

Have you seen our run in?

A competent manager would still get us in the playoffs. Even from where we currently are.

Although......

2 weeks in early January by WD19 28 Nov 2020 10:03
There is a 2 week period in early January where we have only 1 game. The new manager needs to have his feet firmly under their table by then so we can maximise that time to work with the players.

We also have 9 games between now and then. In a league where promotion candidates need to win virtually every week we could be toast by then.

Do it Marcus. Stop waiting for a miracle. What you are currently doing is sticking with a partner you don’t love in the hope they will magically become more attractive and have a personality transplant.

You're twisting what I actually said. I didn't say "a few" and I didn't say "only" in hindsight.

Yes he's neglected the club. I was referring to managerial appointments, and it's a fact that with most of them, most of us on here were happy with them at the time. People call Hurst a terrible mistake... and yet at the time LOADS of people were calling for him on here. There was equally no, or very little, wailing when Keane was announced.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Reportedly, no one knows. Every week we hear he has 3 more games. People say their sources tell them this and that. But still it rumbles on. Let's be honest, only Evans knows, the rest are guessing or listening to people who arnt that much in the know.
