My only concern with Cook... 09:09 - Mar 2 with 1596 viewsJackSted

Is he's not arriving with most of his background staff that were part of his team during the Portsmouth and Wigan promotions

I think it’s highly likely that within 3-4 months he will have got most of the band back together.

I wouldn't worry too much, he's clearly the driver when it comes to management, it's only been highlighted by the fact that Lambert was so abysmal, and it was clear he was useless without a decent number two.

Sir Alex never had an issue going through assistants and Pep doesn't look like things have gone downhill since Arteta left.

To be honest, I cant start the day properly without a decent number two.

Don't be silly, it will only be 100 points.

....And an FA Cup Semi-Final and a Johnstone Paints Trophy win.

Why do you think we will be eligible for next seasons Trophy.

The only way is up.

Imagine saying goodbye to that "competition". As if we need another reason to get promoted.

Yes - that was my big take from the fire hose of information coming out of TWTD yesterday was that his core team is not coming with him.

Don't know how impactful this will be. But its a risk.

Last couple of weeks Matt Gill's stock has certainly risen, so I can see it being a positive that he's going to be sticking around, if even until the end of the season.

But as others have said, sounds like those who Cook likes to have close will be available sooner rather than later.

This was my concern.

But I’m thinking too much about the Lambert situation. Not all managers are clueless without a Culverhouse figure.

Burley being a prime example. Used to go through different number 2s and keep moving forward. In fact it was a strength of GB that he did this.

I would think his old assistant mgr will become available in the next few months. Wouldnt be surprised if he arrives here.

I was just about to create a debate with exactly this topic.

His usual assistant Leam Richardson seems to be doing a fantastic job with Wigan so he's clearly a very capable guy for Cook to have by his side and his first team coach is now at Chelsea so he also must be very good.

I hope Wigan can appoint a manager full time and we can poach Richardson in the summer.

Funnily enough, Bobby Robson went through a few in his career too without much of a problem, including Woods and Ferguson here.

Surely this would be the patissier dream team:

And that way you get Patissier with Le Vin to spare! (Let's hope it's a lightly chilled Sauternes, or a 5 Crown Tokaji, eh?)
