Serious question 14:02 - Mar 26 with 1795 viewsBelsteadCav

Bigfoot.... do you believe?

Working nights for a few weeks, I’ve been listening to a few pod casts and watching some stuff on YouTube.

I dipped into the crazy world of Bigfoot. There’s some proper weirdos, some even think they are aliens. The finding Bigfoot show, was just nonsense. Shouting in the woods in the middle of the night isn’t going to bring animals closer, complete opposite.

Now I was a always sceptical about a 7ft tall ape walking around the US, and no one managing to find it. But I came across this guy called Thinker thunker, who’s being using modern day technology to prove they’re real. He’s made some really good points, have a look if you have time.

Also came across Bigfoot odyssey, a guy and his wife travel around the country interviewing people who claim to have seen them. Some were just making it up as they go along, but others didn’t have a YouTube channel or trying to be famous, they truly believed they saw something not documented by science. Well worth a watch.

Me personally, I think they did exist, but died out about 60 years ago. Bit like the Thylacine.

Whilst I do NOT believe in Big Foot (or Nessie) per se - the planet is a big place and it still amazes me that there's places man (or woman!) has barely stepped foot in so it wouldn't surprise me for us to come across new species.

Nessie is just total nonsense.

I’ve been to Loch Ness around 5 times. There’s just nothing in there for a large creature to eat. For such a large body of water, hardly any fish.

Ah, that argument is flawed in that “ why not so many fish in such a large body of water” could it be, “Nessie” keeps the fish stocks low?

There's loads of convincing footage of big foot on Tiktok. I'm convinced (nearly).

There are some good documentaries about it where they actually do DNA analysis on samples etc.

The one for the Yeti is actually incredibly interesting and I won't spoil it unless you want me to but I can try and dig out a link to the videos.

Back in the 70s an ex-astronaut discovered one in the forest and got into a fight with it.

I think it was a draw and they even became friends, with the man helping to cover the tracks of his new monster pal to help stop him being found by hunters.

So the story went anyways.

I was fairly taken in at the time.

There was/is a Bigfoot on Cannock Chase, if you believe a certain local 'medium' and his daughter who recorded some questionable footage.

My favourite theory is that there's some sort of portal there and the creature people see is a dinosaur from the past and that's why it can't be found when people look because it has returned.

A very random response but I know Matt Leblanc is a huge believer in Bigfoot. I watched a podcast with Chris Harris from Top Gear and he revealed he has some weird obsession and belief that Bigfoot exists.

It's not something I've ever researched in any detail. I've seen a couple of documentaries on the subject but not much else. Here's a couple of links in case you're interested. Not riveting documentaries but still better than Ancient Aliens!

And go to 1 hour and 15 minutes into this video too (link below) and listen to the audio recording they made in camp back in 1971.

The actual recording comes in around 1 hour and 16 minutes in.

And here:

Does Canada have its own Bigfoot? Owners of a fly-in fishing cabin report attacks by an unknown creature. Can DNA tests on blood and tissue from the beast reveal its true identity?

On the subject of documentaries, these are good, watched all 3 parts in the early hours!

100%

Loads of fake shows but you go down that YouTube rabbit hole and there are some videos where they definately capture something.... many stories too. Bigfoot, Yeti's absolutely.

Enormous rabbit hole with hours of documentaries including a few really interesting eye witness accounts and footage.

It's not beyond reason that some of the really wild and remote areas of the Appalachian mountains or Rockies etc contain or have contained small populations of essentially extinct mammals. The last wooly mammoth population only died out 4,000 years ago.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I think it would be far more likely up near the border with Canada or somewhere in the Boreal forest which spans Canada and Russia. The vast parts of that giant forest are totally unexplored, especially in Russia.

It's certainly possible, new species including some large mammals are found quite regularly even now.

One of the most interesting aspects is that it's not even a recent invention of European settlers, the native people have the same stories going back a thousand years.

The issue is that nobody has been able to find any genetic evidence and videos are simply too easy to fake nowadays. Lack of evidence doesn't meant that something definitely doesn't exist though.

It's also worth remembering the mountain gorilla wasn't discovered till around 1905.
