They're going to bl**dy get away with it, aren't they... 15:07 - Mar 19 with 6890 viewssnudge27

Looking at the news that's starting to come out this week:

France going into lockdown
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-56450880

Other countries now have worse death rates
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56456312

Cases rising exponentially in Germany
https://www.dw.com/en/germany-weighs-longer-covid-lockdown-amid-exponential-rise

Italy back into lockdown
https://www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n726

Those b'stard Tories are going to get away with it aren't they? Whilst it's fantastic that it looks as if we're going to avoid the third wave that seems to be making its way around Europe, no doubt people will ignore the clusterfeck of the first year of the pandemic purely because those frauds in Government managed not to feck it up three times on the bounce...

Surely better to have people not get ill and for life to go back to normal quicker than make some political point years away from an election?

At what point have I said that I didn't wish that we were currently making significantly better progress than the rest of Europe?

The point I'm making is that this shambolic Government and our utterly moronic electorate are going to think that a reasonably-competent finish to the whole thing will more than make up for the catastrophic mismanagement of the first twelve months of the pandemic, and the tens of thousands of deaths that could have been avoided if we hadn't had a bunch of corrupt fascists in charge.

Well you are kind of implying that you'd prefer it to be a disaster such that the government is in for some sort of reckoning.

See above.

If you look at the news media you can see that the whole "...but look over there" effort is already being ramped up.

Of course I shall be delighted if the current progress continues, but that changes nothing as far as the criminal negligence and corruption of this Government throughout 2020 is concerned.

Getting out of this ahead of the rest of Europe doesn't wash the blood from Johnson's hands.

I'm a fully paid up member of the lefty bumfest, and I'm struggling with this one too.

I too think that the government should be held to account in due course, but if we're now getting it right at the moment, then that is something to be happy about!

I get it.

They have royally fwcked up virtually everything pandemic related, and in many cases to the profit of their chums and sponsors.

The vaccine roll out, however, has been a great success and they do deserve to be applauded for that, but that does not mean that they shouldn't be held to account for the early shambles.

Dunno, even Cummings has said the roll out has only been successful because it was taken away from those in government who had been charged with running it all.

He probably has a point.

My point is that he/she was having a pop at the media for highlighting the fact that we now seem to be doing better than some, but it is the same media that were highlighting how badly we were doing previously.

Not sure I'm a fan of anything or anyone political - theyre all in it for themselves (as we all are) - Im just a realist that believes in democracy.

Us getting it right is something to be happy about, other governments getting it wrong certainly isn’t.

Watching so many British people revel in the continuing misfortunes of Europe in a global pandemic has been disgusting and shameful. *

The government have got the vaccine rollout spot on and deserve credit.

That shouldn't stop us looking at the 90% they got wrong or pointing out that the success of the vaccine, once purchased, was mainly down to the NHS who have done an amazing job considering their underfunding; and the army.

I don't think this is going to go away, especially when stories like 25,000+ deaths were unnecessary. That's a lot of families who will quite rightfully not let this go.

Truly impaired.

Apart from the media, I know of no individual reveling in the misfortunes of Europe over the vaccination programme. I am profoundly concerned that you have had to watch many British people doing just that.

You’re obviously fortunate enough to be far better at avoiding social media than I am.

I have to say, I haven’t seen anyone on here doing it but there’s no denying the barely disguised glee at every European f**k up, of which there’s been plenty.

Forgive me for being mildly hacked off that, having lost three relatives to Covid in December/January, it seems like the Tories are lined up to come out of this smelling of roses because the electorate at large has the memory of a goldfish with Alzheimers.

The fact that we were still experiencing over 1,000 deaths a day during parts of January is utterly unforgiveable.

europe messing this up is very bad news for them and very bad news for us. neighbours who don't get up to the level of vaccination to achieve herd immunity would be awful. there must be a question about whether france will achieve that in any sensible time frame given the level of vaccine hesitancy that seems to apply.
