Tip time 13:14 - Mar 25 with 3740 viewsfactual_blue

I was booked in an hour later today, as I first had to take part in an important high-profile video call with a National Organisation.

This meant there was a queue waiting to go into BSE tip. I had to wait about ten minutes to get in.

I was able to dispose of the waste successfully, both the garden waste and the bottles and Tassimo podules.

I suspect a fair bit of gardening will take place this week, so I'll probably be there again next week.

This is approaching the excitement levels of Benters' compost heap.

I went to our recycling tip this morning, parked away and walked the last bit. I was seriously reprimanded and told only people in cars would be admitted. He admitted me; what a nice man.

How dare you not add to the congestion. I hope you've learnt your lesson and will take a load of travellers with you next time!

We really do have some silly jobsworth rules don't we?

Can you and facters make a series of this, visiting a different tip each week and giving us a review?

Netflix series, surely? With a cliffhanger on the penultimate episode as Facters falls in.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Can't you get compostable "podules"?

You can for Nespresso so assume you can for Tassimo.

Such as these which are excellent:

Well, not wanting to top your tip efforts - but I will anyway.

Got myself to the Caister tip around 10.30, no queue, but stopped by the man at the entrance: "What are you disposing of today please?", he asked. Obviously he couldn't see the single mattress strapped to the top of the car, or maybe he thought that's how I usually travel, who knows.

So mattress for landfill, microwave (still working but very very old and decrepid) for the small appliances section, and a load of wooden window blinds, which bizarrely had to go in the metal bin, despite them being 90% wood.

Metal trumps wood, apparently.

Managed to sneak a handful of broken wall tiles into the rubble bin without paying the £3 DIY waste charge...

Those pods are horrific for the environment, I got rid of my old Nespresso and bought a bean to cup machine, better coffee, far more cost effective and the used ground coffee is great for compost.

The ones I linked?

They are made of corn starch and thus totally compostable and fine for the environment. If you mean the normal Nespresso pods then you are absolutely correct. That is why I posted up the link as that coffee is compostable, tastes far better than others and is a small independent supplier.

I used to have a bean to cup but unfortunately it broke and I don't have the space for it where it used to live. I do agree the coffee is better in a bean to cup.

From their site:

"Produced using energy from wind, sun, hydropower and biogas. These truly are ECO FRIENDLY pods, and are HOME COMPOSTABLE — put them into your garden compost or local council waste food or garden collection."

Apologies, I meant the Nespresso pods, not the one's you linked. Should have made that clearer.

I hope one day you will be able to get back into the world of Bean to Cups, so many good local roasters around these days, I'm half tempted to turn my shed into a roasting facility (Cue Keno and a phallic comment)

I went to the tip at Hadleigh last week, so can give something of a review of that. It was unfortunate that at my arrival time they were taking one of the containers away creating a short delay before I could make entrance.

The parking situation was fairly straightforward, particularly when compared with the mayhem at the Ipswich equivalent.

The lovely friendly lady wasn't there, but in her absence the chaps stepped up to the mark and answered questions like 'where do the light bulbs go' and 'can these empty cannisters go in the metal recycling?' with polite efficiency.

6 out of 7.

Only Tassimo make podules for Tassimo.

They are, I gather, returned to Mr Tassimo who recycles them into new podules.

True, should be more careful really. Don't want anyone to be put off by the quality of the tip and start fly-tipping.
