Corbyn and Duncan Smith oppose vaccine passports on 10:20 - Apr 2 with 1682 views | tractordownsouth | The latest vote on the Coronavirus Act was very interesting. Most Tory and Labour MPs supported it but the Labour left voted against on the grounds of there not being enough sick pay and the Tory right did so because it restricted civil liberties. Weird to imagine Steve Baker and Jeremy Corbyn going through the same voting lobby - that can’t have happened much since the New Labour years.

And screw you people of colour who are reluctant too. And screw you people who have religious objections. Oh and screw you pregnant women too. And you asthmatics or immuno suppressed people who are worried and don’t want to have it. Screw you all. I’ve got my passport and I can do what I want. Hahaha!

Do you have a link to this "science"? Vaccinated people already mix more and with less caution. Confirmation of vaccination is clearly going to be essential for various types of travel. May as well all have it. Don't understand the issue really. You either show you have a vaccine or a valid medical reason for not having it, and away we all go.

I don't. But sure there will be more on this shortly. A virologist was on the BBC this morning stating exactly that. His argument was that people would let their guard down if they were in an environment where they thought everyone was vaccinated. And so there would be more mixing than is safe. He was crystal clear in his view there was no scientific basis for green passports, indeed he argued the science was against them.

Is that science or opinion BL? Personally I don't have much of a problem with it. It's just another thing for some people to wave their cyber stick at.

It was the opinion of an informed "virologist" deemed to be adequately qualified for the BBC to put him up. He may of course be incorrect. Some doctors were arguing against the lockdown, so that in itself isn't a slam dunk, accept that. But I don't think he was a "fringe" or fake doctor or anything. Watch this space is I guess the take from it.

Hang on. You do know there is no such hard immutable thing as “science” on these matters right? Only opinions of scientists and other experts based on evidence?

From experience of the last time pubs were open it was the alcohol that was the factor in people letting their guard down and I don't see why anything will change this time around.

Which is an argument for alcohol free pubs, Lucan. Can I suggest you keep out of public health debates from now on :-)

Well I immediately lost my jab card thing within 5 minutes of being given it and I am in a state of panic that I won't get the passport - and let me make something quite clear. If I can't get a pint then I will do all I can to make sure no one gets one.

Sounds like a virologist crossing into socialogy and psychology. Not the same as following the science. I think people will let their guard down once they are vaccinated generally.

Don't disagree. The argument was largely a "human behaviour" one, but I don't think that should mean we discount the argument on that basis. And the science as is often highlighted, is rarely all pointing in one direction.

Passports shouldn’t come in until everyone has been offered the chance to have the needed number of doses but after that point arguably fine. However there has to be an exemption for those who cannot have it for medical reasons which makes it complicated. A better way would be to somehow be able to quickly test anyone who wants to go into a venue but I don’t think an accurate one is in place yet. It’s a difficult balance in opening up whilst trying to control the spread and I can see the arguments for and against.

Agree entirely, that isn't anything other than an opinion based on basic observation of human behaviour. I could have come up with that! It's the same concept as saying more deaths are caused by cyclists wearing helmets because they take greater risks thinking they are safer. That doesn't mean other cyclists shouldn't wear them because some idiot thinks he's immune to getting smacked by a 20 tonne truck. No one, including me, likes the thought of being tracked, but there is still pandemic and either people want to behave like adults or they don't. As for Chico's "what about pregnant women" complaint elsewhere, you'd think it safe to assume exempt people are just that, exempt. So it's ok Chico, you can go ahead and get pregnant, you'll still be able to go to the pub.

This is a flawed argument unless you are suggesting that people who are not willing to have the vaccine are less likely to ignore distancing rules,
