Letting Cook have that month before the transfer window and then bring his own players in, even on loan, in January would have given us a decent shout of the top six, maybe even higher with a good run of form.
Instead any piece of confidence and belief has been drained out of virtually every player. It's going to be a big job to turn the team round in the Summer even with this number of out of contract players.
It's an utter mess of a club from the top down, the culmination of years of neglect and apathy from Evans finished off by the abysmal management of Hurst and Lambert. Really not very optimistic about our medium-term future if Evans doesn't sell.

In hindsight it would have been great for Cook to have had Jan and the Summer with the hope of mounting a charge next season because clearly this squad needs some SERIOUS work. Here's to hoping he is backed by whoever will be our owner come the end of the season, Lord knows he needs it 🙠|  | | |

2 weeks in early January by WD19 28 Nov 2020 10:03There is a 2 week period in early January where we have only 1 game. The new manager needs to have his feet firmly under their table by then so we can maximise that time to work with the players.
We also have 9 games between now and then. In a league where promotion candidates need to win virtually every week we could be toast by then.
Do it Marcus. Stop waiting for a miracle. What you are currently doing is sticking with a partner you don’t love in the hope they will magically become more attractive and have a personality transplant.

I hoped he would have done more but it was far too late. He's had less of an impact than even Lambert's first few matches when genuinely better performances - Reading and Bristol City in particular - were let down by poor defending.
It's hard to turn around a side with such low confidence and form, Burley didn't manage it in 1995 either, so I was prepared to give Lambert time on that basis as the damage was done beforehand. Mick McCarthy in 2012-13 was very much the exception, as much as some wanted to play that down afterwards. | |

Spot on. Seems utterly incredible that we brought in all those loanees — only Parrott of whom has been anything approaching useful — just weeks before he arrived. As always under Evans, our timing has been way off.
What an absolute state. Needs to be an absolutely fairytale couple of weeks before season ticket renewals come out, otherwise there is massive trouble ahead. Have to feel for Cook. Have to pray for new ownership. |  |

Cook is not a poor appointment at all - very decent and logical choice.

Cook hasn't been able to even vaguely improve this group of players, if anything they've performed worse than under Lambert and I don't think one mid season window would have given him opportunity to change much so I'm not sure it would have made a difference.
Had he come into the club in the summer or last season when Lambert should have gone then he'd have had more of an opportunity to change the squad to what he wants. | | | |
