Just had a turtle dove in the garden. first one I can 100% confirm I've seen.

Apologies to the rest of you, just want to share my pleasure with the other bird nerds on here.

I had a great birder weekend… saw on Avocet on the march, then a red kite being attacked by two lap wings!

Great stuff.

I have a pair of collared doves in the garden… a beautiful bird indeed.

Back in Ye Goode Olde Dayes I used to see great flocks of lapwings in the fields, now it is a lucky sighting if I see one or two of them.

On the other hand there were no Red Kites, and barely any buzzards in this part of the world then.

We have two of these doves where we are, been here years, and they are lovely. I love the cheeky little robin we have that visits here. He is so friendly and sits quite close to us, with his little head cocked to one side!

lovely soothig clall from the Turtle Dove too.

I thought I heard one a few days ago a few hundred yards down the road from us so thought they were in the area. But am blinking delighted to back it up with a sighting, especially as it was in our grden.

The downside with collared doves is that they keep calling UNITED, UNITED.

I just hope they support Colchester and not Manchester United..

Kestrels seem to have vanished too and I haven’t seen a Bullfinch for years.

Yes, you used to get kestrels along motorways very frequently - and elsewhere obviously.

We occasionally see bullfinches in a wildlife reserve in St Albans.

plenty of kestrels in the Ipswich-Shotley-Sudbury Golden Triangle, and the occasional Bullfnch. Always found the latter a bit tricky, mostly they seem to be in the deepest parts of hedges.

A few years ago, it appeared that there was a dip in Kestrel numbers, but definitely seeing more recently.... the new interchanges A14/M6 and A14 new section near huntingdon seem to have helped, as they have some nice "isolated" verges, where I assume mice/voles are doing ok, but no big ground predators get there.

There's a nesting pair of Buzzards around the Belstead Brook area. They raised a single chick last year and I saw it hunting a little while back.

Kestrel, Blackcaps x2, Green Woodpecker & Wren from my dog walk yesterday in the above mentioned area.

I've not seen a Bulfinch for ages.

We have ospreys (pair plus 3 chicks) at Foulshaw Moss a few miles down the road. Went to have a look last week which was great. However, might need to take the Hubble telescope next time rather than my binoculars as all I could see were tiny dots.

I do always find the osprey visitor centres a bit frustrating, as like you say, there's usually a mile or so of distance to avoid disturbance.... some of the webcams provide great viewing though. ( Welsh nests are good - Dyfi, Glaslyn, Clywedog).... there's a massive new visitor centre at Dyfi - and their observatory was already fantastic, if looking for a good osprey visit experience.

We do have a pear tree, two in fact , but there are no partridges in it, they stay in the field behind my garden.
