Stockwell was Stumper as he once ran Bobby Robson out in a cricket match. I like Frans Thijssen being known as Sam. Beat always called Arnold Muhren Schnickel.

Dunno I just remember a Newcastle player on TalkSPORT saying how SBR used to get everyones names wrong and the presenter asked "What on earth does he call Shola Aemeobi" and the guy replied "He just calls him Carl Cort" Robson was legend at calling people by the wrong name. Another thing that made me laugh. I was watching A documentary recently about either England or Robson and the players were saying they were having bets as to whether SBR would mention the war before a 1990 semi final team talk. The first thing he said was "We beat them in the war" and the whole squad fell about in hysterics.

I' sure I heard somewhere that when Cort arrived at Newcastle someone said to Sir Bob who's that and he say the player we looked the other day Jason Ewell There are variations on that story!!

I think he was Noddy since school. Trevor Whymark was Skid. Beat always called Mick Mills Bomber. Kevin Steggles is known as Jack as, if I remember rightly, he was called up to the first-team squad for a European match and was put in the journalist Jack Steggles's hotel room in error and the name Jack stuck.
