I can't remember a game that's a pivotal as Wimbledon on Sat. 14:02 - Aug 24 with 1869 viewsOriginalMarkyP

And by that I don't means as 'important', although that's part of it.

It feels to me, and accepted it may be just me but I'd imagine that it's not, that this either goes one of two very polar ways.

If we win, and I mean ANY kind of win, the relief will be so palpable that almost everyone will feel they can turn around and say 'There you go! We did it, we're up and running and we can do this...what was all the fuss about?'

But lose or even draw and I think the knives will truely be out. There are a lot of people I sense keeping their powder dry but ready and waiting to give it to Cook with both barrels and this weekend to me feels like the tipping point when those fans won't feel they have to show any restraint anymore.

It makes the game pretty exciting. It feels live or die and so improbably early in the season. But that is where we are.

I guess we'll see come 5pm on Sat.

Personally, I would be OK with a good performance with no individual errors or lack of marking for free headers...if that's a draw so be it.

I don't remember ever signing a contract to stop the messageboard imploding.

I just asked if we'd get to Saturday without it happening.

All my posts this week have been about positivity and Cook smashing it.

Search it up.

Four games in...

If it's any help, Blackpool were lower than us at the equivalent point last season. We were also comfortably settled in 3rd place after 4 games last season. It's all meaningless at this point in time.

Besides, there are signs that things are on the up. We've been much, much better than the bulk of last season. People seem to forget how utterly abject we were with those players, failing to score in about 3/4 of the games. Obviously we need to start turning the 'improved performances' into wins, but there's no reason why we can't.

I'd say early March 2019 against Reading when we were staring relegation in the face was far more pivotal.

Completely get where you are coming from.

But we have to acknowledge we're in a unique situation.

We've gone out and collected the Harlem Globetrotters of the lower leagues. We've put so much in place. We collectively as fans expect so much to be delivered. There is added to that the pressure of pretty much everyone in UK football outside the top tier enviously looking on, waiting for us to trip over our own shoelaces.

We need to relieve the pressure. A win does that. But forget for a second what people write on here. Pressure will build regardless if we keep being 'unlucky' and making 'silly mistakes'.

Watch all Cook's interviews back this season so far. I think you can see he's starting to feel it and he's smart and experienced enough to know it's not going away unless he and his team make it go away.

It's incredible that the pressure is there after 5 games. BUT it is.

And pressure builds very quickly in football. As quickly as it can be dissapated. You just have to come down on the right side of the equation.

It's the little things you read... Cook wasn't Gamechanger, Ashton and O'Leary's first choice, they wanted Appleton. That wasn't being said a few weeks ago. I've read it at least 5 times now.

It's Cook saying 'I'm not begging for time' when he clearly is doing exactly that.

It's the podcast guys joking (not joking) about the defensive shortcomings of the coaching staff.

It all adds up. Personally I think it's crazy, but it's there like it or not.

We should win on Saturday, and even if we do it's the September fixtures (which are pretty challenging) which will give us a decent idea of where we're at - three wins out of Wycombe, Bolton, Lincoln, Sheff Weds, Doncaster, and we're doing OK.

Indeed any Town fan who thought we would be anywhere near the finished article before Christmas is well wide of the mark . Shipping out 95% of your playing force and replacing them with 16 ? new faces will of course take time to gell . lets hope we can be good enough to pick up enough points to still be in the mix come January .

Were you at least 5 years old on 29/05/2000? 🤔 (wouldn't expect anyone younger than that to remember).

I'd say that game was rather more pivotal ...

38 then.

I'm talking about more recent memory. Marcus era to now shall we say.

What I'm saying is that I can't remember feeling the nature of game quite this picantly for some time.

And it feels unique that it could mark (for many) all our troubles and worries vanishing over 90 minutes. Or a massive amplification of them.

To qualify that...I'm very much erring on the side of our troubles dissappearing as I think we'll dismantle Wimbeldon and everything will click.

My only worry is (full disclosure) I've felt like that before every game this season, and then felt the same dragging dissappointment afterwards. I'm sure many on here will paint a different picture, but I suspect 99% of us have gone through a very similar emotional process.
