Jobs after football 21:49 - Aug 23 with 4950 viewsFBI

The Clive Woods thread got me thinking. Aside from those who stayed in the game in one role or another (pundits, presenters, coaches etc), there've been a lot of players passing through Portman Road over the years and most, I imagine, ended up in real jobs. I once met an ex-Swindon keeper from the sixties and asked him how it felt to be a hero to thousands and then a nobody just a year later. He laughed and said, 'it was only bloody Swindon...'.

On a Town note, I can only remember three off the top of my head: Larry Carberry (Class of '62) was a stevedore on the docks, Pat Sharkey (Class of... well, mid-70s reserves mostly) became a teacher and, as noted recently, Nicky Forster is a motivational speaker/life coach.

Bum, make that five: Paul Cooper's golf things and Eric Gates' farm.

Anyone got any more?

And apologies if this has been done before: I'm new round these parts.

Mick Stockwell did my kitchen a couple of years ago - a really good job, and he was great at advising at every step of the way. The labour charge might have been a wee bit higher than it could have been, as I spent a heck of a lot of time distracting him by talking about football, of course.

Very highly recommended.

I was about to mention Romeo Zondervan, but that was when he was still a player, not after.

Tabby became a stable lad.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Really? I thought he was a scout.

I bumped into Tommy Parkin in The Fat Cat. Tommy was a Uefa cup medal winner.

He was a painter and decorator

I would have assumed Steve McCall would have earned enough for long enough to be happily retired with a decent pension

Didn't Laurie Sivell run a fish stall in Lowestoft as well?

Very late 80s, maybe year 90 I'm driving daily to a small, luxury homes construction site, north of Ipswich. A friends teenage son was coming along to give me some help during school holiday, when needed. Topic of conversation always seem to lead to Towns 'glory days' a decade or so earlier and the 'lad' mentioning going to the home games with his father and his favourite player being Trevor Wymark. Within a few days of him mentioning that, you can imagine our disbelief when we spotted Wymark filling a kettle from a standpipe for the painters who 'he' was helping out during a break from his summer coaching schools!

When Mathie does his radio work how much do you think Radio Suffolk pay him (and Stewart and Mills)? Petrol money, expenses and a few quid more?

Butch only really backed the insurance brokers as an investment. Probably helped locally to use his name. It was was also setup and running while still playing.
