PLEASE let him manage at least one game in front of the home crowd.

Would be much better if the new manager is someone with majority approval and they got their first win in front of that home crowd.

Truly impaired.

If the new manager is in place but allows McGreal to manage the Sunderland match, their first game will be... away to Gillingham.

Why does that sound familiar?

I think George Burley will take his place in the dugout for the Sunderland match.

You think Ashton will miss the chance to walk the new manager out in front of 27k+ at PR next weekend?

If it does end up being Harris, he might well be wise to. Not a lot seem to have much love for him getting the job here.

If it's Harris it'll be to a chorus of boos.

I dont think you are right , whoever the new man is he will start off with a clean slate and the full support of the Town faithfull . As all previous Town managers .

Whoever is appointed will get a warm reception. Once he (or maybe she) has signed they become ours.

That’s because even at his worse, at this level Paul Cook is a better manager than Harris. It has to be an upgrade or we’ll be back here in a year.

There wasn't a lot of love for Joe Royle when he arrived. I don't think the fans will be that enthused about Harris until we start winning a few games.

even if it's Harris, and it's still a big if, anyone who boos a new manager before he has even taken charge of a game needs to take a long hard look at themselves...

Exactly. Most gave Cook a completely free pass for the abysmal record last season, least we can do is back whoever the new manager is when they first come in.

But you couldn't blame fans for being uninspired.

agree - I wouldn't be inspired but to boo Harris would be ridiculous

I’m not sure it will be, but I’m a bit baffled by the constant negativity towards him. If people were clinging to Cooks previous record then the side Harris built at Millwall and Cardiff would be a good blueprint here.

But then again, that’d require applying consistent logic innit

I think Harris would be a solid choice but not a PR razzle dazzle one. He’d not have the ceiling you’d hope we are looking for though.

Most (many at least?) gave Cook a completely free pass for the abysmal record last season because for some reason they were blinded by his appointment. Not altogether different from a couple of seasons before that when Lambert let us slide down without too much of a fuss.

It would be us all over if we then do the opposite with someone who might potentially do us some good. Harris isn't inspiring for most but maybe he'll offer some bland stability for a while if nothing else. Give the players time to find themselves without the hype.

All that expectation talk early doors this season must have laid an element of pressure on our players; just got here and expected to catapult us into the division up a accentuated by the war cries of the new/not new manager in Cook.

Flippin' circus, coffee cup props, new owners, Twitter propaganda campaign, more coffee cups, Ed Sheeran...

Just work in training on our flaws and let the boys get on with their jobs maybe.

Glad it's not Lampard et al, last thing we need is more hype.

Harris’ previous record?

He took Millwall up at the second time of asking after visiting the play offs in his first season - good
He finished eighth in his first season in the Championship - fantastic
In the second season he scraped 21st - not so good
In the third he picked up four points out of 21 and quit - again, not great
With Cardiff he took a team which had just been in the Premier League from 14th to 5th - decent
He left the following year after six defeats in seven

But again just listing finishes ignores the context of owner interference, selling off assets and not replacing them properly etc. You’d think as Ipswich fans we’d recognise that.

I’m not advocating Harris at all but the idea he will be met with boos or that he doesn’t have a jib here in the short to medium term is odd to say the least. He’d be an average to better then average appointment at best for me.

But this reaction because his agent is putting his name out, is odd especially after all the purism and holier than thou from certain types towards managers past.

Yeah maybe I overstated it by saying "chorus" but I think there will be grumblings from a minority, like there were when Joe Royle was appointed.

Not saying I agree with it, but I think it would be an unpopular appointment and some will be vocal about that.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
