Online COOKING spice suppliers, any recommendations? 13:19 - Jan 24 with 1749 views | NthQldITFC | Getting fed up with rubbish quality supermarket spices, anybody got any recommendations for an online supplier, non-plastic packaging, postage applied to the order as a whole, not per-item! Cheers. Edit: Hey, this could be a good one for some puns as well, hoping for some mint responses. [Post edited 24 Jan 2022 13:20]

I've just been reading this https://www.spicemountain.co.uk/packaging/ which is from a commercial supplier obviously, but it does go to re-enforce that when you read 'biodegradable' you're not necessarily getting what you think. Maybe fully recyclable polypropylene is a reasonable option, but I suppose I'm hoping to find something in paper or glass. Bloody minefield as usual. Probably best to walk to a shop with my old glass jars for refill.

More to differentiate the request from my other requests for narcotics suppliers. Best not to get chilli on your old chap, I tend to find, although it can add a little spice to the experience.

Lots of these places popping up now which is great to see. And to think some used to scoff at Lowestoft institution Weigh and Save... Ahead of its time.

Good to see and I'd use a local shop taking this approach. It's popular in the States, where even the smallest places will often have a whole food store where you can buy all manner of foodstuffs loose and just take your own pots and jars. We should do more of this type of thing in the UK.

I'm pretty sure I can remember Weigh & Save from when I spent 2 years at college in Lowestoft, and that was back in '88-90, so they were very much ahead of their time, if I've remembered them being there then correctly!

Online COOKING spice suppliers, any recommendations? on 17:22 - Jan 24 with 1357 views | brogansnose | Depends on where you live but I go to a shop down Mill Road in Cambridge - Al Amin - and get all my dried herbs and spices from there which are excellent quality and get more for far less money. Plenty of places like that in every largish town.

Spices on the web are excellent. Plastic bags, but as little as is practical andfrankly what else keeps spices fresh and secure in the post?

Massive no no for me Ronny. Overpriced for basic spices and the rest is basically 'curry' kits; masalas that anyone can knock-up themselves for a tenth of the money at home. Although I suppose if the kits get people cooking who wouldn't otherwise then that's something. But yes works out hideously over-priced. Anyone near Bury, there's a decent little store down St John's St for World food stuff which I have started using. They also sell online and have another shop in Newmarket at time of writing I believe: https://www.farawayfoods.co.uk/ Support the local guy if/where possible! Otherwise a quick Google will show a wealth of places but please price check as they can vary terribly. No need to pay silly money for spices and I try to buy larger bags which is more economical but easier if you can find someone else who's interested in splitting quantities/costs. I appreciate this doesn't address packaging though. [Post edited 25 Jan 2022 0:59]
