So is it Sunderland, Wycombe, Plymouth as Town then? 21:49 - Mar 1 with 4637 viewsunstableblue

Great Oxford lost, but still think they're going to have enough, they're a seasoned play-off drive team

With Pompey and Bolton in the wings.

Think Sheff Weds squad quality is coming through and they'll get away.. as I hope ours will fully for the remaining game (just fix the front 3 selection).... and the Owls have a game in hand....

Think Sunderland have had their bad spell and can see their form turning for the better. Lots of teams battling for 6th, we’re the rank outsiders in this foot race IMO.

Portsmouth.

Its perhaps a faint hope that Wycombe and Sunderland keep out of long term form... but some better recent results for them.... as you state Pompey are into form....

I’ve been an eternal optimist living in hope but I just can’t see it. This week has killed it for me. Our lack of fire power is going to cost us I think. We’re points and games worse off and some are hitting form now. Or at least not slipping up enough. And we need a few teams to slip up which isn’t happening.

That Sunderland result was a bit of a killer at the weekend.

Season over I'm afraid. 4 dropped points last two games was the end of it. 2 points off sixth could easily happen but not six points. Not a chance.

Poor strikers have cost us. Crewe managed to score against Cheltenham!

Yep, our big chance to really push on was finished by those two results.

Still, very optimistic for the future under McKenna.

It doesn't matter how many clean sheets we keep if we can't score goals we're going nowhere. Our goal output is an embarrassment and has undermined all the good work. Whatever any body from the club comes out saying those last two results did for us.

Portsmouth.

They have to play us, so we can still distance ourselves from them. No team is going to win every game from now on. Many of the top teams have.yet to play each other. Obviously we are not favourites to get to the play-offs, but it is not a lost cause.

If teams win their games in hand, we are effectively 8 points behind top 6 with 11 to play. The four points dropped last week are surely going to be the end of our season.

EDIT: it is six points not 8

Ahem - not really that good that Oxford lost as Portsmouth, like Bolton look likely to finish above Town. At least it looks likely that Town will now finish above Cambridge.

If teams win their games in hand, surely we're 9 points behind the top six? Wednesday would be on 64 and Plymouth on 62. We're 9 behind 62.

That would also put us in 10th position, behind Portsmouth, with 11 games left. If we were to finish in 10th, that would be our lowest league position since the 1950s (of any fully completed season).

It's quite depressing to think that K-Mac has come in and improved our defence (our weak point previously) so much, and undoubtedly improved our PPG very substantially in a short space of time, and yet we're somehow effectively in 10th position (on PPG currently). But we still have a chance, and K-Mac is undoubtedly the man to lead us. So onwards and upwards...

I know what you are saying, but a solid defence keeps you in games. No point conceding loads of goals, the good sides are always good defensively, look at Rotherham this season. This is where I do agree with you, we need to be more clinical when chances arise, we are far too wasteful in front of goal.

For us to still have a shot we need to win the next 3, and take 4 points from the oxford/Plymouth games.
Just don’t see our strikers being able to chip in with goals to make that happen.

We are going to need something like 78 points to get there - it's a huge ask.

Realistically that means 8 wins from the last 11 games.

We haven't won 3 games in a row all season so it's incredibly unlikely - but we are capable of it.

Yep, that's our problem, all our strikers are so out of form and a critical point.

To give you half a chance to get out of this division, we really need a striker who can bang in 20 goals.

I mean there is that chance Bonne could have another crazy scoring run like at the start of the season. Clearly had it in him to do so, and he’ll do it again one day… here’s to hoping!

But for now, I think I’d be playing Chaplin up top, with celina and aluko behind him.

Yep, agreed, can't really make an argument for any of Norwood, Piggot, Bonne and Jackson, they have all been toothless regardless of the workrate.

Must be so frustrating for everyone involved to see us train so well, dominate the games, create so many big chances, only for the final part of the jigsaw to let them down.

Wonder if KMc will start saying to the likes of celina and Morsy ‘get a sight of goal, shoot from wherever’ as trying to walk it in the net is t working with the forwards we currently have (or their form)

So typical is that the 4 strikers we have all hit a sht patch at the same time…

Would have been nice if all four could have had a 10 game patch each where they got 8 goals in that time! Am I asking for too much…. :)

The problem is, when you look at each player in isolation then it doesn't make good viewing from a scoring perspective.

Piggot had that purple patch, but looking previously he was averaging around 4 a season, in League Two.

Jackson had that one season at Accy where he scored 16, but the previous 5 seasons, he averaged around 5.

Norwood and Bonne have had more consistent spells, Bonne at Orient and Norwood at Tranmere, but both have had spells of not scoring for a long time.

Think McKenna will discard them all at the end of the season, maybe keep Jackson as he seems to like him and may well look to keep him as a cheaper option, but that's only a maybe.

I'd like to see Jackson on the left, one of Pigott/Norwood/Bonne in centre and Celina nominally on the right and just give that a go for a few games

This month we play 3 of the teams around us. We need to win those games. WIn all 3 then we might have chance. Lose any and that could be that.

It's not over, but it's going to be difficult.

If we don’t go up ( probably) this yr!
Who would you like to go up ?

Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday have competing support to us. But both can’t go up as they won’t get 1st or 2nd.

Rotherham, Wigan ( with the manager we should have got last yr)
And Sheffield are my 3!
