Where has this Potter to Chelsea thing come from? 13:58 - Sep 7 with 1883 viewsDubtractor

Since when have Chelsea gone for that kind of appointment?

Look at all the money they splashed round over the summer. They will almost certainly be looking for a big name manager, with proven track record at the top level.

Of course Potter would be a good choice for them, with the long term in mind, but it would be utterly out of character for Chelsea.

Plus, Potter not going there means we can relax about the McKenna domino impacts!

New owners, different views.

He deserves a chance, i would prefer him to got to a level up on Brighton 1st though.

Brighton have given him permission to talk to them but FWIW I think they go ZZ or Potch. Got to keep the fans happy with a name.

Once Dean Smith ruled himself out earlier, Potter was the next most likely choice I think.

New owners innit. It's a good, forward thinking appointment for them if that's who they get. Agree it's very unlike Chelsea, bit annoying actually.

Different scenario, but not so long ago they appointed a less experienced, young manager in Frank Lampard.

But if you look at our 'recent' history, appointing young managers is not that rare.

Burley, Magilton, Keane, Hurst.

Prior to the new owners, 3 of the previous 8 appointments were inexperienced managers under the age of 40. And Hurst was 43.

I'm not surprised he's been linked, he's an excellent manager and it was only a matter of time. That said, he absolutely should not go and I'd love to hear him publicly pledge his commitment to Brighton. They've done incredible things down there and he has taken them to another level. If he goes to Chelsea he'll be sacked within a year and vulnerable to a steep decline as we have seen so many times. He's a future England manager in the making for my money, but probably not if he goes to that lot - their business has been bizarre since Boehly took control.

Bookies have him as very strong, odds on favourite. That’s usually a good indicator.

They've just spent a single-window record £270-odd million on players that Tuchel wanted and then sacked him a few days later. I think it's a bit early to say it's a new approach from Chelsea.

yeah but if you can earn 3x or 4x in that single year than you would by staying put, why not chase the money and retire earlier

Because the press have been saying since 5 minutes after TT was sacked that Potter was favourite and then not long after that Brighton had given Chelsea permission to speak to him.

I just don't get this argument, they earn obscene money as it is - I really don't think his standard of living would change at all.

Potter undoubtedly is a very good manager. But I’m wondering how he is going to measure up / cope with the giant egos at a club such as Chelsea?

Yes they did but he had the “Chelsea old boy” connections.

If I were Potter I’d not touch the Chelsea job with a barge pole. Too many egos in that team now, particularly since they signed Auba.

A friend of mine is a Chelsea fan and when they signed Auba I questioned it because of his recent antics at Arsenal (watch the Amazon series) and he said “that’s ok because Tuchel knows him”. I’m not sure how things like this will pan out now and if a manager like Potter is a strong enough character to get the time to turn it around!

I know nothing, but Potter strikes me as a very emotionally intelligent man, the odd time I've seen him interviewed. He may a tactical guru too for all I know, but as far as egos go, i think he'll talk his way into peoples' respect.

That’s because others didn’t want the job due to the transfer embargo.

He also knows how football goes, his stock is high right now but if he was to go on a losing run at Brighton things would look different very quickly, these guys know they have to take the chance when in comes along, champions League football, competing for trophies..

Also, it's only up the road isn't it, so he possibly won't even have to move his family..
