But. Seen reports that sport. And other social events may be postponed this weekend. Imo this is to much. Businesses have lost enough money over the past few years. Small businesses that make the most of sport attendances etc and other areas, really shouldn't be facing a day of minimal business whilst events are cancelled.

Speedway is on tonight, as it should be. Football and all other events should be on too. The very idea that the nation needs to stop what it likes to do to collectively grieve is quite absurd.

Agree with you entirely, Frimmers. It's not the 1950s any more.

How about some freedom of choice?

If you want to go to the football you can. If you wish to stay at home and mourn feel free, but no need to enforce it on everyone else.

Does the same apply for the players, the back room staff, the officials? Would they have the same freedom of choice?

I hope the games go ahead. Minutes silence, show respect as I would to any public figure and play the game. Anything else is hyperbole. She was one woman. Sad for her family like I would be for anyone else but nothing more. Many will be offended by my opinion and say it's disrespectful bit I believe all human beings are born desreving the same respect. Just my opinion I suppose.

It's crazy. We all know it's crazy yet we all have to do it because every company/media outlet is terrified of being the one that starts it and upsetting the utter cesspit that is Twitter.

Lots of people have to work bank holidays etc whilst others are off, don’t see the difference to be honest.

As it goes I’m impartial, I would hope the game goes ahead to be honest. I was just responding with regards to your freedom of choice comment. If everyone had freedom of choice, working or not, then those directly involved in the match should also have a choice, imo.

The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth was suspended this evening & tomorrow has been cancelled. I see the RMT have called off rail strikes next week. Expect there will be more. Unparalleled situation here, I think we will be having a quiet reflective weekend.

I think this is the relevant point. For fans, we can choose whether to mourn or o to matches, but if there are players who want to mourn, where does it leave them? tbh, I'd be surprised if anything more than a small minority of players were in this category, but that may be because of my own thoughts on the matter.

She was a monarch, a wealthy monarch from the aristocracy, what is your connection to her that means you need to make a trip to London to “pay your respects”, she wasn’t your mother, grandmother or great aunt, why the need to public ally pay your respects like that?
