Catholics outnumber Protestants in Northern Ireland on 13:42 - Sep 22 with 1958 views | Guthrum | Added to that fact is the existence of a growing non-sectarian bloc in Northern Irish politcs, as shown by the electoral success of the Alliance Party. Protestant exceptionalism is significantly under threat (not helped by allegations of corruption and anger at their continual derailing of the Stormont Assembly).

We will, but not in my (expected) lifetime. Mars will have been visited first by humans....I'd say over 50 years still in a way that is peaceful....before that it would not be. All IMHO ... no doubt wrong.

I think the majority of people probably do. Though on that same radio show this morning there were people calling in to say they didn't want it as well. ( difficulty in integrating people who don't see themselves as British into Ireland, very different culture etc).

Yes, I read an article a while back that hinted at a "We're doing alright, thanks" feeling amongst a significant number. I wonder how many would move across to GB.

It's quite the question isn't it, people seem to think that the ROI will welcome them with open arms, but there are a number of things that need to be taken into account, one being that the ROI don't bankrupt themselves with the integration of NI.

That was always my presumption until reading that article - I suspect it would get the go-ahead from the required ROI referendum, but not without some reasonable objections.

You would have to hope the most hardcore of those who consider themselves British would move back to GB rather then cause issues in Ireland. But that group are quite unpredictable so who knows
Catholics outnumber Protestants in Northern Ireland on 15:16 - Sep 22 with 1683 views | Eireannach_gorm | I think the 29.13% identifying as Irish only is the most significant number in talks about a border poll. This figure is still less than the 31.86% identifying as British only.

“Move back”. Presumably very few unionists there have ever lived in GB? I hope it happens, but I’m not sure how you solve that problem of integrating people into a re-united Ireland who don’t want it. Maybe you don’t and they’d just have to put up with it.

"Maybe you don’t and they’d just have to put up with it." Difficult for Unionists to argue with that approach!

They could move to Glasgow & support Rangers! As you may know, a large number of the Northern Irish Protestants are the descendants of Scottish Presbyterian migrants.

I think kit is actually the Catholics causing issue ie having more children (issue) So it could be that the problems are being solved, not by the Catholics using the Armalite, but by their not using the fetherlite. I suspect it is more to do with an older and bigoted generation dying off. The idea of marching up and down the streets dressed as a homepride flour man, spouting misinformation about the past is not so appealing to the younger generations. Whether the ROI would actually want a fully integrated Ireland is another matter. Currently, they enjoy all the benefits of an open border, without the social costs of the impoverished parts of NI.

They'd get a huge amount of help in EU grants for that "problem" area.
