For a party that likes to wang on about self-reliance they've sure spent a fook of a long time now trying to blame other people for their problems.

Truss dismantled in the House of Commons on 14:59 - Oct 12 with 2055 views | BlueNomad | I have friends who are middle-income or retired on ordinary pensions and think this miserable crew are "great", "love Boris, he should still be in charge", say "but Labour..........." and have already said they will vote Tory again. They certainly aren't rich. As they live in Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambs it doesn't take too much working out to recognise the candidates they will be voting for. I despair.................... Still, maybe there will be "surprises" in Ipswich, SW Norfolk and Suffolk Coastal. [Post edited 12 Oct 2022 15:01]

I'd love to think Suffolk Coastal could be an upset, but I'm an Ipswich boy living in a constituency that include Woodbridge, Aldeburgh, Southwold, Halesworth et al. Lowestoft might help us out!

On a serious note ... Would the tory party seriously think it could impose a 5th PM on the country without a GE being called? I get that it would be a Sunak coronation with no members' vote, but still ...

Does their constitution oblige them to go to the membersh!t for the final choice, or can the 1922 committee anoint a successor on its own?

George Canning territory here I suspect. Truss will be the Captain Smith who gets blamed for crashing the ship into the iceberg.

Do you recall the stink they kicked up when Gordon Brown took over from Tony Blair without calling a GE. They were very vocal about it.

If the likes of south suffolk and suffolk coastal are lost to the tories that would be monumental. However past experience tells us that hacked off tories tend to vote Liberal. In which case it could be mean Liberal Seats propping up a Labour government. One other point. The tory government was on death row long before the 1997 Labour landslide, therefore I suspect we may not see an election until January 2025 as they desperately cling on to power.

I assume that when she says she won’t cut benefits, she means in absolute terms, but they will be increased below the rate of inflation which is , of course, a cut in real, terms.
