Watching this montage has me thinking 14:02 - Oct 26 with 2004 views | GlasgowBlue | Peter Shilton signed for a newly promoted Forest in 1977. Anyone else think that had we, as a regular Top 4 side, signed him we would have won so many more trophies under Sir Bobby? No disrespect to Paul Cooper, who I idolised as a kid, but Shilton was on another level.

Pat Jennings was the best keeper that I have ever seen and will remain the biggest 'what might have been' for me. Having the best goalkeeper in the world in our team would not have done any harm for a few years.
Watching this montage has me thinking on 14:18 - Oct 26 with 1881 views | NthQldITFC | Not knocking him at all, but a lot of those saves were a bit, shall we say, Hollywood. A lot were brilliant too. What was his distribution and his command of the box and handing of crosses like. Bit too young to really remember. One thing going against him is that there was no ready-made rhyming superlative that preceded his surname.

I was thinking Pat Jennings is the one we should've got.

Interesting. Never knew that. What a sliding doors moment.

Yep. And Burley's header in the FA Cup Final would have gone in if it wasn't for Jennings. Would have saved a lot of angst!

Watching this montage has me thinking on 15:01 - Oct 26 with 1720 views | gainsboroughblue | Shilton in his prime was superb. He was unfortunately a bit past it at his last World Cup. Just thinking of the five German penalties he got nowhere near (not that you can blame a keeper for a penalty shoot out loss), the Breheme free-kick and the mistake in the third place game with Italy.

Agree 100% Edit to add - I think I read somewhere that his hands were a foot (in length) from outstretched thumb to outstretched little finger. I'm a fairly big chap. Just measured mine - 8 and a half inches. (and to anyone who might have misunderstood, sadly I'm not talking about another part of the body!) [Post edited 26 Oct 2022 15:16]

Ha, because of this post I've just measured mine... hand span that is! Me, a little old scrawny guy and mine spans a whopping 9 1/4 inches. Back to Shilton, who I thought was an excellent keeper and I was there at Wembley stadium early 70s when he made a fabulous one-handed save, shown many times, I think from Daglish in the game against Scotland that England won 1-0.

PJ wanted to stay living in the London area and only coming down a couple of times a week to train, which put Sir Bobby off the move.

That's old-school, saying come 'down' to E.Anglia from London. 'Cos London was always 'up', even if you lived in the north.

And is a reminder that, had a player signed for us, they might not have been the same player as they turned out to be in a different team with different coaches in a different location.
