If all the players Cook brought in, Fraser is the one that I was most disappointed for.

When he played, you could tell he was a good technical player, but that missed penalty at Burton combined with him not being used to the best effect meant he never settled in the team, and when it’s not going well on the pitch at a new club, it’s easy to become unsettled off the pitch.

His move here simply never worked out for either party.

" Penney is like one of those clowns that kicks the ball away every time they bend over to pick it up. If you see all the doors and wheels falling of a small car in the carpark, it'll be his. "

Interesting how players get bad reviews when a team plays badly.

The Motherwell boss was much more effusive in January:

“We want to keep Matty, we’ve made no secret of that.

“He’s been a good player for us in a problem position for us that we’ve solved pretty quickly.

“He’s enjoying his football, he’s playing every week, he’s doing well, he’s progressing his career."

Maybe the problem is deeper routed rather than Penney and Bonne?

Or League One is a higher standard than the Scottish league?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Dreadful player. Those people saying last January him leaving would come back to bite us... lol! He'd look pretty tidy in a 5 a side game i imagine but nowhere near good enough to play in a decent L1 team nevermind playing any higher.

I’m surprised Bonne hasn’t done better. He did well first time round at Charlton. Fraser? Not seen a lot of him, but did see him for Charlton at the start of the season. Good touch but looked desperately slow.

Bonne. The number of Town fans would clamour for him to come back to us last January

It's been 14 months since he has scored a goal.

Still baffles me how people were desperate for Bonne to come here.

So glad we got Hirst and Broadhead.

Not sure about desperate. Wasn’t it a case of we could do with somebody, what’s the alternative and his love for the club.

I wouldn’t have minded him returning. Thank goodness I’m not the decision maker (what do I know?) as it looks like we’ve dodged a bullet there, if Charlton support reactions are anything to go by.

Yeah you're right. There were a few that were rather desperate but the majority, as you said were seeing him more as a 'he will do the job' kind of player.

Not enough work rate in him, for my liking. Never makes a tackle, either.. Looked red faced and blowing whenever he put a ten minute shift in. And needs too much time and space to be effective, imo... Not sure how MKD got such a tune out of him. Perhaps he had a few grafters around him, there, doing the dog work?... Getting our money back, or as good as, when moving him on to Charlton, was good business, for me.
From, memory, he had one decent half of football. In Pizza Cup, 2nd half verses Col UTD. When they sat back so deep, he had ten yards of space around him, and was able to pull a few strings in AM....Pretty sure we drew that game though, and lost on pens,so he wasn't great...

And to think some thought Bonne was the answer in January 😂😂😂

Just to add, we finished mid table with that lot in our squad....Charlton look to be heading for a mid table finish..Tells you all you need to know...

Side note... I like the look of their young striker, Leburn..Hes a beast for a teenager. His old man was half decent. Could be one to watch for the future.

It might be massively petty and something I need to let go of, but Charlton not performing with a bunch of our old players gives me immense satisfaction after they took some of my favourite players from us in the early 2000s.

I was thinking much the same when I read the thread on their forum. With, I'm not ashamed to say, a fair bit of smug satisfaction.

Fraser is a good footballer. He has no engine or physicality about him though. He is one of those players if you put runners all around him he's ok. Very limited though. Without pacey, strong players around him and pace up front he is going to look bang average. Never good enough for us.

Penney and Bonne just not the required level. Always glad to have had Bonne for a spell though. Just 6 months too long.
