Here's another - the cost of food delivery for 3 always seems to be at well over £30 now days. Or another: got a guy in fitting 3 internal doors for 250 a door - still not sure if we're being ripped, or if thats just the going rate. Tricky to out my own rates up, but trying to tell all new punters that my day rate's at the meaty end now.

£750. For fitting three (3) doors? And you're not sure if you're getting ripped off? If you had to guess though, what do you reckon? What were the other quotes like?

Does that include the doors, or just the price to hang them? That's probably half a days work Ulla, max 1 day.

A carpenter will take roughly 1.5 hours to hang an internal door plus add on 30 mins max for a coffee break and pee. Wish I could earn £150 an hour!!!

I feared as much, but tbh we know this guy and he could do it fast*, plus they were non-standard shapes, so he had to trim them / patch them** and trim the frames too. He's gone now, but it took a ay and half, so no doubt we've over-paid. *He wouldn't do the front door - we're still waiting after weeks for 2 companies just to come and quote for those. **past their trimming tolerances, so battens put back in after. If internal doors with maybe new hinges and messing about etc at most a door is going to take half a day - but realistically those 3 doors should be hung in a day

yeah fitting new hinges and fitting the opening mechanisms. Still though, think I regret confirming my muggyness now - blissful ignorance would have been better! [Post edited 16 Mar 2023 13:11]

Chancellor Lucan...a question. on 19:16 - Mar 16 with 1550 views | HARRY10 | cost them ? Surely all the stuff sold in farm shops is produced their own farm, harvested from the fields by local horny handed sons of toil. That is the image they like to portray to their gormless punters. Not that the stuff is actually sourced from the same places as the supermarket, and is priced far higher because of the stupidity of its idiot customers. I was speaking with two of these simpleton last summer who somehow believed that about 20 different varieties of crop were grown on the farm that had the shop, the jams etc were 'homemade' and the meat was from the same farm. All prepared and packed in the farm kitchen we have to presume. Less than a minutes thought would grasp that is impossible, if only on the grounds of supply. What next ? A beer garden that markets itself as selling alcohol produced from it's own distillery, wine from its own grape press and uses home grown coffee beans. Where food is charged more because it is served on a roof tile, chips in a mini dustbin and all manner of flowery twaddle is used to describe something as simple as bangers and mash.

£250 to fit a door?? I hope they're supplying high-quality doors and all the furniture for that price.

Well I'm not an expert by any means (who really is) but I have my hunch and opinions. Personally I think food inflation is actually around 25% in real life. There seems to be a global food shortage that cannot just be about Ukraine - although as a massive grain producer the Ukraine factor is significant. Ironically I sent some stuff to Ukraine recently and it included a load of pot noodle type things that were actually made in Ukraine! There also seems to be droughts going down in some major food producing regions.............and then we have the cost of energy. Energy costs affect everything and it's an obvious massive problem, from producing crops right down the line to cooking them. I went on Just Eat the other week for some fish and chips and piece of large haddock was around the £10 mark - and can you imagine having to pay the energy costs to heat a big drum of oil up to cook some overpriced potatoes? .......and it's just not production of goods. We have two showrooms and they are averaging out at £2000 a month for electric for the pair of them - and we have no electric heating, this is just for lighting. All offices and retailers are getting hit with this and it's not sustainable, no way! In the sector we are in we have seen freight costs drop massively since the turn of the year but raw materials, paper and wages in China have shot up like crazy which has evened the landed prices out. My conclusion is that I think the data will show that inflation is falling and that it is on course to fall back quicker than normal to previous low inflation levels but I don't think so and I won't believe the figures.

Shortages leading to a rise in the cost of vegetables- it’s your fault for voting to “take back control”. Said experts did warn you… [Post edited 22 Mar 2023 13:49]

Nonsense. Imagine how much each and every supermarket is taking to run at the moment. My local corner shop near my office has turned its freezers off, can't afford to run them. To add insult to injury they have opened a social supermarket store opposite - 20p for Uncle Bens microwaveable rice anyone? Poor bloke stands all day from 7am - 10pm and then gets shafted. He's screwed!
