Is that the going rate for a top champ striker?

And is even proven to be a top champ striker? Know he had a loan, but unsure if £6-8m is going rate these days

Premier League tax, bet if Everton went down they’d have sold for £2mill, or kept him even.

Think that is an out of ordinary price and Everton were just being greedy.

Probably a bit high but someone who was on track for 15-20 goals in the Champ last season, from a Prem club, young, good profile for a striker. Then you add in that clubs like Cov, Swansea etc. who have a decent wad of cash from player sales can afford to bid a bit higher than others pushes the price for someone like that up. Gyokeres has had a couple of 20ish goalscoring seasons and is going for 20 mil, Piroe with a similar record rumoured to be going for a similar amount.

Was always a bit baffled by people saying 3 mil was too high for him and we shouldn't pay close to that etc. - that sort of fee seemed about right really.

Likes of Surridge or Hirst probably pushing 2 mil in value, or least what would be asked for.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I have been surprised by how the value of Leicester's better players has held up despite their relegation.

I appreciate that Simms is not someone who has made a big impact in the Premier League, but nonetheless, I'm not sure that relegation really has as big an impact on market value as one might expect.

The fees have probably depressed a bit since CoVid, certainly when we're last in the Championship, Strikers were going for £5 - 10 million

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

There seems to be huge amounts of cash getting splashed around again. PL more than anywhere, Bohley has taken spending to another level hasn't he and Saudi Arabia has ballooned the whole market.

Supposedly Southampton want £40 odd million each for Livermento and Lavia, what must they want for JWP? Caicedo is supposed to be worth £85 mil, have seen £100m in one report today....all good players but that's just silly money.

Market is mad.

Feel we may get better value by bringing in a striker from abroad. German/Italian/Spanish league.

Or someone prolific in another league (I'm thinking Gustav Isaksen like- young, prolific and manageable fee plus wage demands).

It was revealed the other day that Coventry are getting £20m for Gyokeres. I think if that hadn't happpened, they'd have been able to knock the price down a bit.

£4-8M is about right for a signing for a flush Championship club to spend on young, promising but unproven strikers from the PL. Proven top Championship strikers going the other way go for about £12-20M. All a bit variable though.

Coventry have been one of the smartest recruiters over the years, and whilst they are about to bank a load of money aren't going to do a silly overspend - if them or Luton previously, were paying that sort of fee then it will be the going rate with potential for big upside

I guess so and we can't live with that.

Remember parachute payments, etc. We are not in that league yet, lets not get carried away, first season back at this level, lets get established with this squad and then see where it takes us.

If the reported fee is 6-8m then they certainly have done a ridiculous overspend for a guy with 7 champ goals, even if its only 4m upfront.

The potential for a big downside is one i'm glad we didn't take.

Until we make a huge profit on one of our players, under FFP we are not going to be in a position to be silly, i'd rather go for better value in the overseas markets.
