Hladky's error last night 11:55 - Dec 13 with 3670 viewsitfcjoe

I think it was really good that we conceded *THAT* goal away from Portman Road, because the reaction from the crowd was so good - even the boozed up people around me were very philosophical about it - "inevitable", "bound to happen eventually but it's right thing to do" etc.....imagine difference at Portman Road would have been large

The away end was superb last night, as was Hladky after the early error - the way he helped see the game out with his feet is testament to the team spirit and his confidence and belief - and that of the fans too.

Well done everybody

Agree with that and said as much to my wife.

The people who sit around me in the West Stand still moan about the passing around the back.

Great response from the defenders as well.

Thanks for the insiight into the crowd as I wondered how it would be perceived. The reaction towards him from the players pretty muched sums up the spirit in the camp. It was very reassuring and probably helps bounce off on the fans.

Very much.

Encouragingly also, there were only one or two moaners on the chat, which can be very quick on the old knicker-wetting front.

I suspect the response if/when it happens at Portman Road might well be better than we expect. Another one of KMc's superpowers has been educating the fans, and I reckon he might have done a better job than we realise.

Pretty much his first mistake of the season and also, his save second half from Lewis was top draw. Good to hear fans didn’t have a meltdown!

Thought he recovered really well to make the initial save, but obviously no chance with the goal.

It could kind of be classed as second phase and that we technically didn’t concede from his error

Couldn’t make it last night, but the away end was coming across as very vocal throughout. And the manager and captain gave genuine respect and thanks to the impact the fans had in their post match interviews.

I love how we play out of the back and what Hladky is doing. We’re the best in the league at it.

And what was so good was Hladky was doing again and will his usual calm and effective style, almost immediately after the error. And continued it throughout the game.

In some ways his defence let him down, because he made the error - it was meant to be a longer pass out to Leif that he miss hit, and looked like intended for Burgess. It was not. As stated after the error, our goalkeeper makes a fine save and the defence just aren’t closing and blocking quick enough.

This hopefully isolated error may encourage teams to put more players on the goalie and press high but that inevitably leads to having a spare man running free in midfield or on the wing, as we’ll have pulled the opposition out of shape.

Love how morsy and davis went straight to him to say don't worry about it.

What a team.

Very well said Joe. The number of times I still hear people shouting ‘get rid of it’ in the SAR lower is embarrassing. I thought the reaction of everyone, players, fans and especially Hladky was superb.

Think that's what KM was alluding to in his interview as well. Seems the penny is dropping among our fans, that we need to take the rough with the smooth. There's been a whole load more smooth than rough, but we will concede goals at times by playing this way. It's very easy to be wise after the event on the occasions it doesn't pay off, but had we not had such bravery on the ball and stuck to our principles we likely wouldn't be sat top of the league on 51 points.

The reaction was great. Few seconds of 'b0llocks' then a rousing call

I remember that he was the first player McKenna went to after the Sunderland win and the camera picks him up saying “you had a good game” which may be a minor thing, but he probably had some doubt he could be a keeper at this level after the last few seasons and McKenna knew he was in need of the support (from what I remember some of players were overcompensating a lot to protect him in that game).

And look at the guy now after belief is shown in him

Plymouth at home last season was crowd edgyness at its worst. I remember Woolfy asking SBRL mid first half to calm down.

They didn’t really look worried either, more of a ‘ah fck it start again’

So you enjoyed it that much you needed to take a semi veiled swipe at home fans? Haven't the home support noticeably not got on the teams back even when 0-2?

Good to see he got it out of his system instantly and it didn't affect confidence at all, for the remainder of the game.. Seen other keepers crumble after a mistake.
It's the first time I can remember that happening under KM.. I liken it to a missed penalty by a striker. It happens. But if it happens just once in two seasons. Its nothing.

Sunderland, Vas started with a minor error and looked nervy after it but in the end won us the points. He's only been upward from there

He's right though. You should hear some of the nonsense I have to endure around me in the NSL. A few would have lost it.

I love how we play from the back even though it makes my arse tighten sometimes and a mistake was always going to happen and surprised it took this long.

No one around me last night gave any abuse in fact quite the opposite as all proper fans understand and appreciate the way we are setup to play.

We do sometimes try to overplay when the better option would be to stick it behind the fullback and reorganise but on the whole we are pretty good at what we do.

Yeah. I think there are times when a bit of game management comes in, rather than it being a deviation from our philosophy. 1st half yesterday is a good example, there's 1 minute added on, we're into it and we're getting ourselves into a mess in the right back area, end up conceding a freekick in a very dangerous area. I think then there's an argument that Williams needs to be a little smarter in that instance given the circumstances. I think we're learning all the time though, the players are growing and making the right decisions at the right time. Burgess last night wasn't afraid to pump it once or twice for example.

On the whole though it's how we play, it won't change and it's working. I think it's only very specific moments when you might say to be more pragmatic. Their goal last night isn't one of them, without the benefit of hindsight. If we break their press we've got space, on a slick pitch to break at pace. Can't rue it retrospectively just because it didn't work.

Brilliant away end last night.

Crowd really got behind the players, even in the tough moments. And got a moment to remember at the end. Good stuff.

To be fair, our crowds at home have even been patient with the mistakes the last two seasons. Probably the most forgiving I have experienced in my lifetime, even Burley's team got a ton of flack at times when we were good.

Shh! Haven't you read the memo, that was the cunning plan of giving Watford that goal last night.

Where do you sit? And do you have difficulty hearing?

Walton had to plead with (a vociferous minority in) the NS to stop being impatient and gnarly last season, more than once.
