Got to feel for Wes 15:41 - Aug 18 with 4770 views | keighleyblue | The journey's he's on in hi career is incredible. I thought he was giving the scousers real problems yesterday and we lost momentum after he went off. Hope his hammy is not too serious and he's back in the team soon.

I said that to the missus at the time. Him staying on could be the difference in 3 weeks out or 3 months out and was really risky.

Quite. What we learnt today by Ryorry 17 Aug 2024 16:01Yes, still 0-0 at that point iirc, but even so, I'd have thought that 3 pts dropped v 'pool would be less damaging than a worsened injury for Wes.

Got to feel for Wes on 15:57 - Aug 18 with 4585 views | franz_tyson | Not really sure if he gave them real problems, but he seemed to tie up Robertson. He didn't really have the beating of anybody, but he's got a bit of physicality about him and made it a bit of a scrap down that side. Not sure him going off was key. Liverpool came out second half a couple of gears higher.
Got to feel for Wes on 16:01 - Aug 18 with 4496 views | LeoMuff | I thought he looked a bit overawed first half couple of times he could have gone at Robertson but didn’t, one time he cut loose his hammy went. Was weird he didn’t come off especially after Hirst last season - came back on after feeling his hamstring and was out for months.

Exactly what a few of us said, I know the staff take the players word but he's been hampered by hamstring over the last year wes should have just said sub me,

Didn't we do that with him a little while back. Or am I thinking hirst? Went off. Came back on. Went off.

It was Hirst, Wes went down and went straight off when his hammy went last season.

Same with Hirst last season and that didn't go well. However, they know a lot more than we do, and I'm pretty sure I can think of times where an apparent 'hamstring' can be run off, as unlikely as that sounds to us mere amateurs. He seemed to be walking OK afterwards, didn't he, and no ice? Suspect (hope) it's not too bad. Definitely gets a rest at Citeh, no point playing him there, Johnson can do a more defensive RWB type job. Burns has seemed to come back quickly from stuff before as well, he might tend to respond cautiously to something fairly minor, which is no bad thing.

He was icing it on the bench.

Got to feel for Wes on 08:04 - Aug 19 with 3182 views | PioneerBlue | I’m hoping it’s a minor one. Key injuries are starting to be a big negative for life in this new league. Broadhead, Hirst, AAH and Clark missed most /all preseason, Muric and now Wes.

Not sure it was Robertson being quick or wes bulked up a lot that's its slowed him down as he didn't seem as quick has previous seasons. He's definitely added physicality to the battle which is great but I did wonder if he's lost a yard which can happen if you've bulked up.

This is a good point for discussion. I had been a little disappointed in Wes's performance, because I wanted to see him doing a Wes & attacked the full buck (Robinson in this case!) with his strength & pace, but it didn't really happen. Also, he could/should have been sent off with a second yellow - I half thought he wouldn't come out 2nd half as he was surely going to get another card for any sort of questionable challenge, pity he did with hindsight. But he was replaced by Johnson, so a full/wing back as opposed to an attacker. Again, I thought Szmodics might come on & Omari switch to the right side, so clearly the emphasis on the side was defence minded, as in containing the threat of Robinson, which to be fair, Wes had done.
Got to feel for Wes on 11:01 - Aug 19 with 2657 views | itfc48 | I wonder whether it was a bit tight from early on. It was quite similar to the Sheffield Wednesday game last season where he went of injured - that game he also seemed reluctant to try and fly past the left back which is unlike him.
Got to feel for Wes on 14:40 - Aug 19 with 2345 views | TractorJack | I think we really missed him when he went off. There were 2 or 3 occasions where the passes out to him weren't quite right so didn't really get a chance to test Robertson. The one time he beat him for pace was when his hamstring went. Also always good at challenging in the air.

Yeah I said this early on in the game. You can tell the games where Wes isn't 100% because he doesn't take his man on early doors. Most games he'll knock it in behind and go at them first chance. There've been a few games over the last few years when he's not done that and then later he's gone off. So it seems to be something he's very aware of going into certain games. Such a massive player for us when fit. I think he can cause a lot of problems this season when fit. Love the guy!

Bit worrying if true, I think Delap was earmarked as competition for Wes and will play there once the striker situation is sorted.

We sit in FF, so right where Wes is first half most matches and I'd say the last few times he's gone off early we've largely called he didn't look himself early on. It always seems obvious when he's managing a knock or an injury because of the way he either goes at his full back early doors or is a little more reserved. Whatever it is hopefully it's very minor and he's involved Saturday or as soon as possible. He'll be an asset in the Premier League and also think he'll do so well that it'll push him to another level for Wales, where he's often looked like he doesn't quite believe he has it at the international level. He absolutely does and looking forward to him showing that.

Was Dusseldorf his hamstring or a knock? He went off injured very early in the Brum game late Feb (before the more serious injury against Weds mid March) but I think that was a calf problem, don't remember if he tried to play on that day. Appreciate Burns isn't rated by everyone on here but I see him as an important player, must be frustrating given this is his third injury now in eight league games.

I said the same, didn’t look very confident and not at his usual, free flowing best. Understandably nervous!
