I had a similar thought, but the details of the car accident don't really seem to fit the narrative.
If it was less than a coincidence, you'd expect the vehicle to have made a hasty departure and been found burned out a couple of miles away.

Bit naughty of the BBC not to publish the whole story initially. It just said the guy had been hit by a car and police were appealing for witnesses. They later amended it to say he'd been a hit by a lady driver and she had remained at the scene. | |

The reporting, intentional or not, does seem to be inviting conjecture.
The death of the chap out running keeps getting mentioned alongside the boat story, but only in very basic terms - i.e. 'his co-defendant was hit by a car whilst running at the weekend and was killed'.
With such little information being provided, and the story somehow making heavier weather of the fraud acquittal than the circumstances of the crash, it's not surprising that people are thinking that it might be more than just a coincidence. | |
