New squad photos up; think Edmundson on his way on 15:19 - Aug 26 with 2954 views | unstableblue | Thanks for posting Joe Apologies if already highlighted but the new squad photos are also up, bit of character in the shots this season. https://www.itfc.co.uk/teams Cajuste, Clarke and OShea photos not yet done. Definite +1 striker will be added, then I think we’re done. I got the sense from Fridge’s gestures on Saturday that he’s off. I always rated him, and I think a good character. Never got the game time here though. But Axel, Wolf and Burgess are good back-ups to OShea and Greaves. Which we’ll need. I’ll still expect Wolf to start Saturday. He was mainly good at the Etihad, but still has errors. Ali out on loan, and I can’t call whether it will be Harness or Taylor who is retained. Both good for the squad and cup games.

Squad then on 15:30 - Aug 26 with 2779 views | tractorboy1978 | It's hard to see how Taylor gets minutes going forwards isn't it? 5th choice CM and well down the picking order in the 10 position. If we got a chance to make our money back before the window shut, I think we would take it.
Squad then on 15:32 - Aug 26 with 2763 views | Trickster | Think loan for Ali and Fridge out are clear cut. Question is who we keep out of Taylor and Harness. I'm leaning to keeping Taylor. I think we have enough strength in depth out wide following Clarke coming in (if we sign a back up for Wes, Ogbene in the squad list in the OP) meaning we can let Harness go. Taylor offers a slightly different, more attacking style of central option to the 4 we have, although not sure any of us really know what Cajuste's style is, reports seemingly suggesting he is more suited to a deeper role than Napoli had him playing. Taylor could do a job out wide if we were threadbare too. Having said all that, I'm still not fully convinced on Taylor in that CM role based on last season and he would be well back in the pecking order. As has been noted on here, he played further forward at Peterborough and that role doesn't exist for him here. However, I'd argue generally Harness is probably further behind the attacking/wide midfielders than Taylor is for central options.

I guess Taylor gets more minutes than Harness, but also he’s probably easier to shift than Harness is too

Squad then on 16:34 - Aug 26 with 2350 views | Vegtablue | Best practice to have 5 players comfortable playing CM in my view, especially as Luongo isn't really a full 90' option. Think we'll keep Taylor. Fridge must be moving on with other defenders providing enough cover. Al-Hamadi should be moving on loan if we sign our target striker, unless Hirst is months away. Thought it interesting that Harness came on before Chaplin against City. If Harry, Broadhead or Hirst is out for a long time is there an option to leave them out of the squad to begin with? Reading up on Ogbene: he was out with a hamstring injury himself last season (2 months, March-May). A couple of Luton fans have questioned his pace since the injury. The majority though focus on Edwards' decision to play him at RWB, when there's someone on the bench who they feel is much better in that position (Walters). He hasn't been a strong player for them in their first three games. [Post edited 26 Aug 2024 16:36]

If we sign Broja, and he and Hirst are still out for a number of games, then surely it is advantage Ali as we will need him as backup for Delap in the interim. If we move on from Broja and sign someone who is ready to play from the off, that would presumably release Ali for loan and would mean one of Taylor or Harness keep their place.

Squad then on 12:20 - Aug 27 with 1676 views | Parky | I don’t know how long he’s out for, but I don’t think Harry Clarke’s spot in the 25 is guaranteed. He’s had no pre-season and we’ll have Johnson, Axel and Ogbene who can all play there. I could definitely see him not be registered and then loaned out in January.

Plymouth are well-stocked for strikers so doubt they'll be in for AAH.

As it stands Hutchinson and Chaplin are the two players for that R10 position. Not sure we have anyone else who really specialises there. Broadhead and Harry Clarke technically have more competitions for places than Chaplin does (Szmodics and J Clarke for L10, Johnson and Tuanzebe for RB).
