Obviously injuries mean this list will reduce. And it will rotate. Obviously McKenna will do a good job of keeping this group involved, including on pitch warm up before games. Based on the following first 20 picks: Muric Axel Wolf Greaves Davis Morsy Phillips Ogbene Hutchinson Szmodics Delap Subs - Walton, Clarke, Townsend, O’Shea, Cajuste, Hirst, Clarke, Broadhead, Burns [Post edited 14 Sep 2024 8:24]

And therefore, unlikely to include 4 returning players on the bench straight away.

I’m sure that’s exactly who Johnson left West Ham. Think we can all agree he’ll be in the squad.

Yes did originally have Johnson in over Clarke. And you’re probably right. Don’t think my point was this was the specific list, just that some good footballers won’t make the matchday squad. But I’m expecting good things from Clarke if he can get back to full fitness - his injury was really hampering him last season.

Again it was not ruling people out. And perhaps less about specific players - it was more about the potential list being of real quality You can swap Johnson for Clarke, Broadhead for Chaplin.

I think Clarke’s injury last term was worse that people realised and he played through pain, hopefully he can get fully fit and we can see his best and he can challenge Axel and Johnson for a place. Also really interested to see how Hirst and Broadhead get on. Hirst could well become the starter over Delap? Think the Premier League better suits Broadhead, but he was a bit patchy last season and has real competition this term. But think he gives us something different.

Of those, you do have to feel particularly sorry for Burgess, who unlike Luongo, Taylor and Al-Hamadi has not even had a game so far. Presumably he was made aware that this might be the case, and was content to stay because injuries may well come into play. [Post edited 14 Sep 2024 9:27]

The unlucky seven are more than capable of taking advantage of any opportunity that may arise as a result of injury or suspension.

Clarke is a lot better based on what I've seen of Johnson. Clarke is weirdly underrated by some on here, if fit he'd be my first choice RB, although Axel looks to have gone up a level so unlikely to be dislodged at the minute.

More even than in the Champ, McKenna is going to be adjusting the matchday squad game-by-game to counter opposition threats and to exploit opportunities.

Crashing out of the carabo cup will stop the development of slicker and the competitive match fitness of the fringe players, But then I'd suspect our training/game sessions would be like matches,

Is it good enough? No idea really because I don’t know enough about the teams in our mini league, but I’m sure that KM thinks it is so that’s good enough for me. To have a bench as strong as it will be, regardless of who is on it, is a testament to the recruitment policy over the summer.
