Who'd have thought it eh?

So serving her community as a special police constable was a clue that she’s a wrongun?

This is a disgraceful story.
No-one seems bothered that a woman was mugged... let's hound her out of her job for a mistake! Before she was an MP and declared before she started.

The gutter press and politics of this country.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

If they have to resign for predisclosed things like this, alongside things like historic social media comments and likes then there will be nobody left.

I suspect it's more that they wanted to avoid a week of headlines before she eventually resigns for "becoming the story".

Would wager she's back in a ministerial role in a year or so.

No not really.

She was mugged, made an error listing the things that were stolen ( one phone ) and didn't benefit in any way.
Her solicitor gave her the bad advice of pleading guilty - 10 years ago.

Nah, she’ll be in the back benches for a while. She pissed off Starmer earlier this year when she called P&O Ferries a ‘rogue operator’ and called for the firm to be boycotted, which caused embarrassment for the PM.

given that she declared that to starmer when she became a shadow minister, i find it hard to see why she has resigned unless there is something more to come out.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Agree.

Yet Farage is backing the MP who 'forgot' to declare his criminal conviction and jail time for assault while standing for election.

I assume the charge was wasting Police time by not telling them when she realised she hadn’t had the phone with her when she was mugged.

By resigning now presumably MSM won’t dig any deeper. The timeline seems extended, it was a work phone and that was apparently replaced before she found the ‘stolen’ one.

Water under the bridge now, will be forgotten about until she gets another ministerial appointment.

This is Kevin Maguire's take.

I agree Flash. It seems nearly all outlets are just looking for clicks. I'm not suggesting there is no story here, but unless there is more to come, it feels like the outrage is disproportionate.
The "Lammy once said something bad (others might say truthful) about Trump" non story was another case in point.

Well no, but it was amusing seeing him storming off in a huff when questioned about it yesterday with a bizarre rebuttal that he (Farage) has 1 million TikTok subscribers.

She was originally caught out by an internal investigation by her employers Aviva.

This was my initial thought too. Given how determined Starmer has been to take out the left, I was surprised she was made Transport Secretary. A big shame she's gone IMO, as she was doing some good stuff.

Yeah.
I think the term "wrongun" is much more suited to Farage than Haigh.

On the face of it I agree. Looks like political expediency to me.

But the story doesn’t make much sense. There’s either nothing in it or more to be revealed. Not that you can believe what the press write. Aviva were investigating loss of phones, wrongly advised by a solicitor, police, P&O ferries, politics, Starmer?

I had those same thoughts on my mind when reading the story I have to admit, but it sounds like more than a mistake reading the whole piece. She was convicted of an offence which is not a mistake, it's a deliberate action (trying to get a new phone by not admitting her original phone was not stolen). She was even sacked by her employer.

And "Under the advice of my solicitor I pleaded guilty", come on, you're a former police officer, you know exactly how it works.

According to The Guardian's piece on her resignation:

"The circumstances around it are disputed. The Times reported that Aviva launched an investigation after Haigh said that company mobile phones had been stolen or had gone missing on repeated occasions.

The newspaper said the police were given details of more than one instance that had been looked into by Aviva, but that the criminal charge related to one phone."

To misquote Oscar Wilde - To lose one company mobile may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose more than one looks like carelessness (or something else).

its an utterly ludicrous resignation. the polar opposite of the tories. what really did she do wrong?? the right wing media which prevails in this country will be loving it.

I imagine Morgan McSweeney played a big part too, given he now appears to have total control.
