Away dressing room at PR 11:09 - Dec 11 with 3368 views | FrimleyBlue | Anyone who has done the tour, did they give you access to the away dressing room? I wondered how it looks compared to the home, I know Ashton was saying they've been refurbished along with the home as he wanted it to represent the club etc, however, it's been said before that there are many grounds where away rooms are quite unwelcoming so I was just wondering what ours were like.

Away dressing room at PR on 11:18 - Dec 11 with 2728 views | Sharkey | When Colchester's new stadium was built, the dressing rooms were identical. Lambert wasn't happy with that, and made the away one as grim as possible. Doesn't seem to upset Colchester's opponents too much ... but it is a bit embarrassing for the club when it hosts e.g. England U20 games.

This has always been a pet hate of mine. Its not a new thing to make the environment as uninviting as possible for away sides, I've seen some really basic away changing rooms at very good grounds before and that's quite normal. Clubs engage sport psychologists in the design, changing details like the colours on the walls etc to try to get an advantage. Norwich painted theirs pink to try to lower the testosterone of visiting players and often control the temperature to different levels vs. the home dressing room. Call me old fashioned but I'm not about all that.

Chelsea, for example. One of the worst away dressing rooms I've been in.

Worth adding that the away dressing room was the home dressing room until Jim's time as manager, so that was where all the preparations in the Robson days were done!

I agree. Seems a bit tinpot. A bit old Wimbledon 'Crazy Gang'. I can't imagine it makes that much difference to the skills of a professional footballer once they're out on the pitch, and if anything it makes you look desperate/nervous about them.

Awesome bit of info, thanks Phil. Was it a size difference that lead to Jim changing or what the then away one better located to the pitch?

I had a manager many moons ago when I was running frimley, we had an fa cup game, and he left a fish in the away dressing room over night. They changed outside and won anyway. LOLZ

We had a Fish on the pitch at QPR once, he stunk the place out as well. What was your role at Frimley, Frimley?

Iirc they said on the tour there are plans to revamp the home dressing room. Looks nice with that blue lighting but does look a bit cramped.

Chairman, Sacked the manager after giving him a 5 year deal on big money because he checked out and sacked the Right winger because he couldn’t cross. Then was ousted as he had a dust up with supporters.

Was the club in a better place when you left or did you copy the Evans playbook? Stuck a few YouTube videos out about 5 point plans.

Yeah not a fan, not very sportsmanlike IMO. But then I'm a bit old school like that, another of my pet hates is how opposing managers & players don't stay for a drink any more. I think it should be a rule that you have to stay for at least 1 drink.

Well I took it over with average of 30 fans. In the red financially at step 5. My final game was an fa cup game v Marlow, 300 fans. Would have been more but covid restrictions. Left with club self sufficient, had won a promotion and a league cup in that time. Built up a first team. Reserve and academy. Had set up a Saturday football session firnu10s top. Hosted lower league women's football etc too so was really good. They're doing better again now. But they had since been relegated after I'd gone. Got rid of all sides outside the first team etc and they survived another relegation by 1 pont last season. Think they're top this season bringing in some of the players back that won us promotion so good luck to them. I emplor people to give it a try it's an amazing buzz.

A friend of mine was on a rugby tour to Jersey once, and left a pig’s head in the sauna in the hotel. They were arrested and booted off the island.

Fair play, that’s some really good work. Did you put any money in if you don’t me asking? Sounds like Ashton needs to get you in and give you some oxygen!
Away dressing room at PR on 12:57 - Dec 11 with 2062 views | Kievthegreat | My wife did a tour of the King Power (even though she has zero interest in football). Apparently one of the features in the away dressing room is that there are a couple of columns in the middle of the room, which serve zero structural purpose, but are there to break up the sightlines and flow of the room. It's apparently intended so that there isn't a spot in the room where you can see every players seat at the same time. I don't think making rooms genuinely horrible is worth it, but TBH I quite enjoy the pettiness of some things teams do. Really low level niggly things.
Away dressing room at PR on 13:04 - Dec 11 with 2006 views | sotd78 | I imagine any decent manager/coach can turn all this stupid "unwelcoming and obstructiveness" into a highly motivational tool. Not sure the "psychologists" have not forgotten the last part of their acronyms . Psycho seems more appropriate. I'd make the away room so comfy they wouldn't want to come out and get wet and cold. Not the other way round.

I remember Gianfranco Zola saying how much he admired this post-match-beer-with-the- opposition culture when he came to England, and how welcome it made him feel.
