This game is showing why sticking with the promotion players wasn't an option 20:12 - Mar 3 with 1183 views | Dubtractor | We see fairly regular threads suggesting that we would have been better off sticking with the promotion team, rather than spending money on replacements. 8 of the ten outfield players were here last season, with all apart from Taylor being regular starters, and we are really struggling with the pace, strength, and technique needed tonight. We're gamely competing, but asking almost no questions at all of Forest. It really is illustrating (again) the gulf between the 2 leagues. [Post edited 3 Mar 20:14]

Think the biggest decline is in midfield. Whilst Taylor and Johnson as part of a front 4 is uninspiring.

I think that has been lost to a degree through all of the changes we have made this season and obviously not something we can easily regain by throwing them all together for one game.

Johnson and Taylor playing out of position with no ball carrier isn't great. Clearly the pitch looks a lot slower than we're used to so its not conducive to possession... but we're not losing yet to a team going for Champions League football. Terrible game though!

Yep. I'd pretty much agree with that. Mas subbed by Cajuste Taylor subbed by Clarke and Broadhead into the 10 Johnson subbed by Philogene Hirst subbed by Delap I think Mas might go off at half time.

Talk of 'too many changes' or 'should have given promoted team a chance'. As you say this is the level change. We had to do what we did but we needed to be a lot more lucky with injuries and players adjusting quickly.

And they were the new guys. It's actually 3 'League One players' we miss most - Chappers, and Burns & Leif down the flanks.

He’s had perfectly good first half using his strength and guile well with very little help

It's not about the 'togetherness' for me, though I agree we have lost some of that and that was a big part of our promotion, but the level of the individual players. As I mentioned in the OP, the pace, strength and technique needed is some way above the players we have on the pitch tonight. Also, for the avoidance of doubt, every one of that promotion squad are heroes, but the premier league is a brutal league. Against Coventry our second 11 coasted, tonight is a real struggle, though this is a brighter start to the second half. [Post edited 3 Mar 20:37]
