Never looked confident.

He strikes a ball so well, why not just leather it, very odd penalty

Poll: Mick in or out? (not a dig at Mick just want to see the overall opinion on here)

True but I thought the same of Williams for Forest and he scored.

He was so tight I think he was lucky to even strike the ball.

They're building up Sels. He didn't do anything - it was an awful penalty, not a special save.

We took 4 good pens which is often enough.
Sums up our season so far
Losing both tosses on the penalties

He’d played the whole game, he shouldn’t have been expected to take one, he was utterly fecked.

Said to my Mrs before a single pen was taken that if anyone was going to miss one, it'd be Taylor. Shame, he just wasn't on it today but still a loyal servant to the club. Onto the next one.

Poll: Promotion?

Yep seemed an odd choice given at the final whistle appeared to have cramp. Doesn’t say too much about the confident of Clarke when his fresh legs were considered less chance of scoring than Taylors. Townsend on set pieces so would have been an option.

It’s weird with Clarke as seen a whole shed loads of Sunderland goals that were penalties - maybe he got outed by Taylor ? Either way you can’t let him take a penalty again, appreciate the pressure and the screaming opposition but he’s missed 2 in 2 which is disgraceful

Hardest shot at the club and he fluffed it as he did at Wimbledon.

Fabulous striker of a ball. Can smash in a 30 yard screamer but can’t put his foot through a penalty (twice now). The mind boggles.

The mind literally does boggle,. because penalties are far more about mentality than ability. Some players are able to take penalties, some aren't. Look at Delap. He absolutely loved that pressure.

Yeah disgraceful - professional footballer that has a 9-5 of kicking footballs, practising what ever they want in their own time, listening to mind over matter pod casts, having free therapy with expensive positive/mental cognitive therapy coaches/therapists but still can’t score or even look like scoring from 2 in 2 penalties - so pretty much disgraceful

If you can hit a ball like he can, it is absolutely criminal you try to place a side footer (twice). I remember him taking one last season (at Reading?) and he nearly took the net out. I don't understand it.

I think the pressure got to him. Lots of people can doubt their ability when put under pressure. It's what separates the world class players from the also-rans.

Mental strength is a HUGE factor in what makes players reach top level.

Ok. Disgraceful.
Got it.
I'll remember that next time we take a tie to 120 mins and pens and a player misses one.
Sigh.

If you are nervous and feeling the pressure, it's far easier to step up and put your foot through the ball than it is to try and be clever/cute.

I’m not talking about the team or the performance or even Taylor in general but the penalty approach twice over from the same player, technically rubbish, twice over from a multi million pound professional - I’m not criticising him as a person as I’m sure he’s very humble and lovely and makes people’s insides tingle but his penalties are sh—t. So sorry if you get offended by expecting more from a professional, maybe I’m a perfectionist but that’s just me, have higher expectations than what others seem to on here, that are happy for little old league one Ipswich to be able to play and compete with the mighty reds in an fa cup game like we were massive underdogs.

So how many penalties have you scored in the FAC 5th round away at an EPL ground under the floodlights?

In my 9-5 job, I put away a pressure penalty equivalent every day and if i ever screwed up my 9-5 job pressue moment once I would make sure absolutely, unequivocally wouldn’t do it again. Can’t really come up with that poor argument.
