His lack of attacking intent this season, down to tactics or otherwise, has been a big issue for our creativity.

Last year his willingness to bomb forward into dangerous areas on the overlap was a massive weapon for us. This year in the same sort of situation, he turns back and plays the simple pass instead. Is it confidence? Is it tactics?

I understand the need to be less gung-ho at premier league level but we’ve sacrificed one of our main offensive weapons and it shows. The last two seasons he’s had the most assists in the country both years. Losing that is a huge loss to us and one of multiple reasons why we’re going down.

He's the 6th most creative player in the Premier League this season in terms of chances created, we are just not scoring them this year.

Ironically, him going forward has left us open to the counter attack, leading to quite a few goals.

The difference this season, is we seem to pass the ball around rather than crossing it into the box.

Poll: What will be announced first?

He definitely hasn't hit the heights of the last two seasons. Can anybody vouch for the following website: https://www.statmuse.com/fc/ask?q=most+chances+created+in+epl+24%2F25+for+defend

According to this, he has created the most chances of any defender in the league. If that is correct then perhaps the real issue is the opportunities not being taken as opposed to his delivery or attacking intent.

I'd need to be reminded of a single one he created on Saturday.

Do they count corners or something?

Most chances created by a defender in the PL this season, ahead of TAA.

As Jakes says, we've just not been putting away those chances.

I expect they do count corners, yes. Delap had two good headed chances from them on Saturday (which I would assume were Leif delivery), can't remember the third chance as tried to blur the game from my mind.

He's also top 10 on big chances created (a big chance being a time where the attacker is expected to score from it) in the league, but only has two assists to show for it (Delap maybe most at fault in our charts for that metric in that he has missed 10 big chances).

I think a team might take a chance on him in the summer. He is nowhere near as bad at defending as some on here make out and he is an ELITE premier league level athlete. The speeds he clocks, his endurance is seriously good. Id fancy him to really excel if he had a slightly better Centre back pairing behind him. Would allow him to do what he does best with more conviction.

On the initial post his chance creations numbers as already pointed out are very good another reason a team might fancy him.

I think intent is the wrong word (maybe?) because he is creating chances as per other replied.

The stats of 51 chances created must help that he takes corners/freekicks. Would be interesting to see how many he's created from open play.

Obviously this year we aren't as dominant against teams so he can't just bomb it forward.

He was one of, if not the most valuable player for us last season. We weren't the same the few games he missed.

Hopefully we can keep him as I think he'll play a major part again, but i think some PL team might take a chance on him

Even if it is all from set pieces, he would be a more effective weapon than pretty much everyone else in the league given his place on the list.

He's one player that I'd be very surprised if we manage to keep this summer.

Gosh yes, 2 assists from 51 chances created is a shocking stat.

One striking feature of our form since January has been our failure to score when we've been on top, which you know is always going to come back to haunt you at this level.

We've not been good enough at either end of the pitch.

I've thought that Leif has had a disappointing season (even in the context of our difficult and disappointing season), but these numbers are making me reassess that at least to some extent.

You could also say that Hutchinson hasn't scored many of the type of goals he did last season. But we are playing at a higher level against teams who's manager and staff will be aware of our dangers and weaknesses.

Opta Analyst is very good for stats and information (as it should be, PL's official partner). I'll post the team home page below and also Leif's individual page, which provides his heat map among many other things.

He's created a lot of chances, as mentioned by others, 53 officially, and it's true we've been wasteful with them, but not "season-defining-ly" so: expected assists (xA) = 4, actual assists = 2. Only Trent surpasses Leif for xA by defenders, but last season Leif recorded the same xA from his corners alone.*

By far the greater problem: no other Town player is "expected" to have 2 assists or more at this stage of the PL season. Omari is around 80th for chances created, Delap around 90th, Clarke around 100th, but when it comes to good chances, only Leif is in the top 120 players in the league.

Our shot conversion rate is above Everton, Man Utd, Palace, West Ham and the two below us in the table, but we create less, and subsequently shoot less, than all but the two below us. We really struggle to turn vague chances into good chances, then the good chances we miss are magnified because we create comparatively few of them. No doom or gloom intended with that description; this is the toughest league in the world to look good in, or even competent.

*Last season Leif would bomb forward without fear, receive much more space, enabling him to carry the ball forward further, as he isn't one to beat players routinely once closed down, locate options in much more space, and sometimes be punished when possession was turned over and he couldn't get back. This season our imprecise attacks have regularly resulted in swift, goal-ending counter-attacks from top class opposition, with Leif caught optimistically up the pitch.

Funny that one of his assists was passing to Delap ahead of him carrying the ball from miles out and banging it in against Fulham too.

I don’t think we’ve sacrificed it at all to be honest.

He’s probably still our most creative player & it’s a combination of not taking the chances & the fact we are not creating as much.

You could even argue had we sacrificed his attacking intent we’d have more points than we currently do as that left side has proved a problem defensively. Admittedly so has the right in certain games.

Maybe it's just me, but I think he's got well as he normally does, but we don't seem to 'cover' him as well, when he does these days.

For the last 2 years, you knew as soon as he went, Luongo put the breaks on and covered that left channel - or Burgess would get over to him.

I think we've found the pace a struggle down that side, with both Burgess and Greaves getting caught out.

short corner to Hutchi who hit it at the keeper was a good chance

To be fair that was a brilliant burst of pace to make that happen, one of the rare occasions he's actually been able to carry the ball for a few yards.

He's not been quite what we hoped he would be this season. His goal against Leicester was a highlight, he really should score more goals though.
