I can’t imagine the plan will be to go in to what is hopefully a promotion season with Ben Johnson in central midfield. Unless I’m mistaken he’s barely played there in his professional career, he certainly hasn’t for us. I can’t imagine he’ll start now. [Post edited 23 Jul 2025 19:11]

Unless there really is a sale to be done for Ben Johnson, recover some cash, having Young work alongside HC and BJ would be valuable. I don’t see how they share the minutes though, that suggests a leaver in the near future. I’d expect that not to be HC because loaning to a Champ club is not in our interests you’d have thought.
OP: Full back, but potentially a bit of depth for the forward right side whilst we work out how minutes Ogbene can cope with and determine whose best out of Jaden and JC, plus Burns not going to contribute a lot if anything before Jan. [Post edited 24 Jul 2025 7:23]

I would be amazed if we carry all 3 in our 25 man squad. My expectation is that BJ will be moved on if we can get a a decent enough fee for him.

I think Clarke started off in the Burns/Ogbene role and then moved into the middle when Ogbene came on. I think he has lots of the attributes to play that RW role quite well that Burns does so well. He's very progressive with his passing and running with the ball, good in the air and can do the tracking back. It will be interesting to see if we see him get more minutes there in preseason. | |
