And it wasn't a massive surprise Clarke looked slightly out of his depth in the Premier League as part of a team which struggled. Whereas McAteer has none of those excuses. | |

I didn't see the potential with Clarke at all last season. He looked weak and so far off it. I was far from alone in that view. I, and many others were making exactly the same comments as posters are saying about McAteer this year.
I think you are suffering a bit of recency bias here. Also, Clarke has showed fantastic form before joining us. I'm not claiming McAteer has the same quality Jack has, but he clearly is better than his showing since his arrival, and his confidence is in the gutter at the minute. | | | |

It was the most baffling bit of transfer business of the summer and I am fascinated to hear from KM what and why the reasoning was.
That said, that isn't McAteer's fault and I do want him to succeed, it isn't nice to see anybody struggle. However, it is extremely hard to see anything other than writing off this 12 mil at this stage. |  |

That's got naff all to do with my original comment though. My observation was that his confidence is as deviod as Jack's last year. Not that his quality is anywhere near Jack's level. Quite a few of us were writing Jack Clarke off for his complete lack of any confidence, and I think it's silly to do the same with McAteer whilst he's clearly so far out of confidence and form. | | | |
